Player Interviews - Antibody - 10-22-2010

Hello all! Here you will find links to my Xonotic player interviews, where you can hear players respond to my questions while you watch a sample of their actual gameplay.

If you are an experienced player and would like to be interviewed, please contact me via IRC. You know where I live Smile. I ask the following of all interviewees:
  • I need a demo of your gameplay. It is central to the whole concept. I would prefer a Xonotic demo if you have it, as we need to get more footage of it out there. It needs to be longer than the interview (I will trim to 15 minutes).
  • Limit your responses to under 15 minutes. For maximum exposure I am publishing these on YouTube, and that is the time limit there.
  • If recording off of text that I've sent, please pause between questions and let me know which question you are answering. This is to assist in the post-process splicing.
  • Keep ums and uhs to a minimum.
  • Be specific about your experiences. Include a bit of yourself - this is for everyone to get to know each other better, after all.

Thanks to all who have participated or commented!

so who is more interesting chooksta? maybe you ? Tongue

RE: Player Interviews - Debugger - 10-23-2010

Sorry, correction.
What I meant, is more like that:
I want more of these intresting players Big Grin

RE: Player Interviews - divVerent - 10-24-2010

chooksta's input is quite appreciated, and already made it into the game. There is now an easy to use cvar, g_rocket_flying, to turn off the rocket detonation delay even if set by the balance. It also shows up in the mutators list, of course, and is available in the menu.

That way, I think we can ensure rocket flying lives on, no matter what the default balance does.

RE: Player Interviews - PGP_Qz - 10-24-2010

Nice idea !
I have a lot of things to say on Nexuiz and Xonotic. (I play Nexuiz since 1.7.X or something)
Unfortunately, my English accent is the worst ever (I don't talk about the grammar, the conjugation, etc ...)

Perhaps a Xono TV would be a good idea. With interview like that, match demo, contest announcement, FOTM'S, etc ...
Live match is harder to do, but can be a good idea too.

RE: Player Interviews - nowego4 - 10-24-2010

Maybe in "Rocket flying" mode, self-damage could also be lowered. Smile

RE: Player Interviews - rainerzufalldererste - 10-24-2010

XonoTV series could also be displayed in the main menu of Xonotic Big Grin

RE: Player Interviews - Rage_ATWM - 10-25-2010

I've heard of that a german Hollywood movie-star interview (someone like JC Van Damme, but german, see?) is coming next...

RE: Player Interviews - Debugger - 10-25-2010

Cuizie, I dont think that it matters how bad your english is Big Grin (I think here are a lot of guys that dont have english as their foreign language Tongue)

In addition, Im sure you can prepare yourself for some interview/make some parts, sentences as often as you want... Wink

I've got you sussed ^^
Anyway, people will don't understand me. Ask Greeny, we try to do a teamspeak TDM...

However, I can do a interview spoken in french, subtitled in English (I can do it). maybe Wii-Wii or Rage_ATWM can make the itw. (is there other french ppl here ?)
I can record some Xono demo to illustrate my comments insted of Nexuiz.
Questions can be modeled on those of Antibody.

Give me an appointment =)

RE: Player Interviews - Rage_ATWM - 10-25-2010

@Cuizi: Or Antibody could provide in advance his question list, and then you answer in french, subtitled in english.
The interview format would change a bit, but still quite appropriate i guess.

RE: Player Interviews - Debugger - 10-25-2010

The interview would be in any way kind of unique Smile

But no hardcore death black metal music, Cuizi, okay!? Tongue

RE: Player Interviews - Antibody - 10-25-2010

I'm really happy that you all enjoyed the first one. Since I've posted there has been considerable interest in me doing more (both here and on IRC). I now have several people who are "on deck" or that I've already recorded. That being said, the more the merrier! I will work within anyone's constraints - I can certainly mail questions to someone who can then record their responses (in fact this is how several people are doing it). I only ask the following:

- I need a demo of your gameplay. It is central to the whole concept. I would prefer a Xonotic demo if you have it, as we need to get more footage of it out there. It needs to be longer than the interview (I will trim to 15 minutes).

- If recording off of text that I've sent, please pause between questions and let me know which question you are answering. This is to assist in the post-process splicing.
- Keep ums and uhs to a minimum.
- Be specific about your experiences. Include a bit of yourself - this is for everyone to get to know each other better, after all.

Also, this isn't something that needs to be done exclusively by me. Anyone is free to make their own! I will certainly continue to make them as long as there is interest, but again - the more the merrier!

-Anti

Passes will be given to those who do not speak English as their primary language Smile

I don't listen black metal !!! (but hardcore and death, hum, yea =) )

The problem with questions provided in advance, there will be no interactions at all. IMO, that questions-answers make the ITW interesting. And I got a lot of things to say on French Nexuiz Community.
Come on RAGE, do it "mec" =)
If no french ppl would itw me, I'll ask to Anti a list of questions but that's a pity.

* PGP_Qz go record some Xono footage with bots.

RE: Player Interviews - Antibody - 10-26-2010

Hi folks! Here I am again with another player interview. This time I'm talking with Mirio, a German player and a member of the BOT team. I hope you enjoy!

*Note that I'm updating the first post to reflect the new interviews as well, so these ones don't get lost in the forest of posts.

RE: Player Interviews - Spyz - 10-26-2010

I like this idea. But what about the average player who games on it for an hour or so a day? If it's only experienced player's views then aren't you shutting out a good 80% of the other players?

It's almost as if 'normal' gamers' views don't count? Which would make it a 'celebrity player interview' not a players interview.

RE: Player Interviews - Antibody - 10-26-2010

Spyz, the two aren't mutually exclusive; I don't play more than an hour a day, yet I am considered by many to be an "experienced" player. Anyway...the reason for interviewing what I call "experienced" players is that everyone can benefit from some of their, well, experiences! I want to talk to people who have really dove into the game. I'm essentially following the same model as some of the quake live websites that do interviews with the pros (e.g. cypher, rapha, cooler). The whole value in these is that they have tips and tricks that can elevate everyone's game. I'm not sure interviews with average players can provide the same. That being said, if you want interviews with that segment of the player base, by all means do it! I'm not stopping you.

One last thing: if you've noticed, I ask each player to give some advice to the new players, thus I am not "shutting out" new players as you suggest. Quite the opposite - I hope new players see these interviews and get excited about the game! I want them to see what kind of play can develop if they stick with it and become more involved with our community, which is one of the best around.
