GPL'd assets can not be distributed in the same package as non-GPL material. It's kind of ambiguous.

Look at all the new textures, maps, songs, and other content of highquality that was made so far because xonotic split off.
With nexuiz everyone would have rested on their laurels and there would be nothing new or added.
