Again, i'm not into details of DP, so I let these things to experts.
From a client point of view (which is mine), the essential thing is that this wrapper should be included INTO Xonotic.exe application, and not be an auxiliary application.
The delay you mentioned to switch from a profile to another does not seem to be scandalous, as this option would not be too often used.

I think this could be achieved by including an icon with the wrapper and not including an icon with xonotic.exe. My two cents (maybe not worth it).

Yep, I get your point... Not sure we can expect anything to be implemented yet, though... Don't forget that this feature will be forgotten about if it's not officially requested.

But most people would have no use for the wrapper and would preferably run xonotic.exe directly.
There are multiple ways to implement it, but they all have pros and cons :/
You'll need input from somebody who knows the engine better.
