playing/converting UT99 maps in/to Xonotic - NotNotPancake - 02-09-2026 hello; I found a rather comical UT99 map that I'd really love to play with some friends in Xonotic I have found several other UT map ports whose descriptions state "no conversion tools were used" implying that such conversion tools are real things that exist. however, I can't find any such tools anywhere. I'm rather new here, so I apologize if this is some recurring thread topic or something that should be obviously impossible to anyone with mapping experience. if anyone here has any knowledge of where to find tools to play UT99 maps in Xonotic, please let me know. -!!P RE: playing/converting UT99 maps in/to Xonotic - MxCraven - 02-10-2026 (02-09-2026, 11:17 PM)NotNotPancake Wrote: hello; Spike is who made all the UT ports I know of, and I believe he didn't use converters because they wouldn't have the right gameplay for Xonotic out of the box, and remaking was easier for him than tweaking. There may be converters out there though, Xonotic can load Quake 3 maps (and uses the same editor) so you may be able to convert UT99 to Quake 3, though the few examples online I've seen seem to be the other way around (from Quake to UT) and they all need manual editing after so you'd need to be comfortable with the map editor anyway (adding the correct entities for weapon pickups and spawn points at least) RE: playing/converting UT99 maps in/to Xonotic - SpiKe - 02-10-2026 Hi ! As far as I know, there's no real conversion tool for porting UT maps to the Quake3/Xonotic format. There's an experimental tool somewhere on Github that gives poor results and is unmaintained. There are major differences between the 2 map formats: UT maps use concave geometry, you have to ‘dig’ into the world to build your rooms ; whereas in Q3/Xonotic it's the other way around, the geometry is convex and you spawn the brushes from the void. And no, @MxCraven, I didn't make all the UT ports out there, Deck16, Morpheus and OldSteelComplex were made by other mappers ![]() I have however ported Fractal, Rankin and Liandri. |
