Super weird forum bug: ZWS inserted in url - Mr. Bougo - 01-17-2011

(posting this here because I'm running out of time and don't want to forget this later)

Look at this post: http://forums.xonotic.org/showthread.php?tid=1409&pid=19906#pid19906
The forum backend inserted a zero-width space in the url for some random reason. Taking the http:// out does the same thing, progressively removing text from the left part of the url apparently moved the ZWS a little to the left relatively, too.

Maybe it's some code that is trying to allow the URL to word-wrap.
Obviously a bug though, as the URL isn't being displayed in your original link.

A URL shortener would be a workaround. http://bit.ly http://goo.gl

PS. Doesn't zero-width-space seem like an oxymoron?

Yeah, it kinda does...

Doku, I considered that but it would still be a workaround to a real issue that other people might bump into later as well. Besides, I really don't like url shorteners, they feel so ephemeral and third-party, they're just plain wrong IMHO.

Has the ZWS bug been fixed??
