Inspriation for player models - Dokujisan - 03-20-2010 The idea is for everyone to post images on this thread that may inspire some ideas for 3D player models. Of course, these are works from other artists, so nobody should directly replicate these. But perhaps images on this thread can help spawn some ideas. I actually feel inspired to do a little modeling... looks like the thread served its purpose It's been about two years since I've done anything serious... RE: Inspriation for player models - MirceaKitsune - 03-21-2010 They look very good indeed What jumps to my attention is the quality of those models. When Xonotic will have such high-poly and high-texture players and guns, I think that will be something huge. RE: Inspriation for player models - fabzor3 - 03-22-2010 haha yes milton from office space! RE: Inspriation for player models - Roanoke - 03-22-2010 What about a unified theme? These models are pretty variegated. RE: Inspriation for player models - fabzor3 - 03-22-2010 (03-22-2010, 07:24 PM)Roanoke Wrote: What about a unified theme? These models are pretty variegated. yeah but variety is good with player models! RE: Inspriation for player models - Flying Steel - 03-22-2010 Variety? They're almost all just people in star trek costumes. Too much cheezey Anthropomorphism. Let's see some more "non-humanoid" designs, like crazy ass machine and alien character models I say. RE: Inspriation for player models - Dokujisan - 03-23-2010 These aren't intended as designs that anyone would duplicate ...like cloning. Take some ideas from the styles used. That was the point of this thread. I mainly grabbed a lot of "alien" and "future soldier" looking images. The theme of this game, and the artistic direction, is pointing toward futuristic space style with a little grunge. (not a bright/shiny space look). But we'll get more into the artistic direction of the game as we work to formulate it further. Flying Steel... post some images that you think are more appropriate. Talk is cheap. I agree with this direction in general, though I'd add a "robot" category to that as well. Much work is going into UGV's and such today, so the future wouldn't feel like the future without them. But I think part of that grungy, futuristic space setting is throwing in some stranger stuff. Basically we need character models to fit inside like a 69 in tall, 32 inch wide hitbox or there about. So technically, they can look like just about anything as long as they can roughly fit inside that area and hold a weapon. LoL sorry, I was mostly responding to someone saying there was too much variety already, didn't mean do come off as grumpy as I did. I summon the power of the internets: RE: Inspriation for player models - paperclips - 03-23-2010 Oh lookie here, actually a reason to visit my sent box on nexuiz forums. The model has to be able to hold a gun, or else I don't see how it could shoot. You can't have the model a sphere, and the gun placed in the air and attached to it. That would be weird. RE: Inspriation for player models - ThePWTULN - 03-23-2010 I agree that there should be brand new player models, but I think we should keep at least some of the old ones. I like using the Quark model RE: Inspriation for player models - cookie - 03-23-2010 Can engine run models runnin' on 4 legs? If so, im going to try work on mantis. Beside that, this is my vision of nexuiz model. http://www.creativeuncut.com/gallery-02/art/mgs-cyborg-ninja.jpg RE: Inspriation for player models - MC SE7EN - 03-23-2010 (03-20-2010, 02:33 AM)Dokujisan Wrote: A must-have for any shooter. RE: Inspriation for player models - Aleator - 03-25-2010 You guys need to learn to use "offtopic", or to start another thread in the right section of the forum. If the discussion is spiraling out of control, the thread will lose it's purpose. This thread is called "Inspiration for player models ". Keep that in mind. "Uuuh yeah, I have to, like, disagree with you on that" © Bill Lumbergh Ok, being serious again: the main idea wasn't that bad, such models could be used also as add-on, or as "easter-eggs". In the end, if we talk about futuristic, military and 4 fraction based storyline one of the fractions must have at least some bureaucratic methodology as well, so some G-Men models could be also used, like in Half-Life, one person, who is always in the background, like the smoking man in X-Files, such characters can tune up the story, and the gameline all the time. That's my opinion to this. RE: Inspriation for player models - Aleator - 03-25-2010 You're right, but I'm not sure that a guy in an office can have anything to do in a futuristic setting like the one we're trying to create here. Anyway, these models aren't bad to have, but please keep the thread clean. I didn't even read your whole post because I didn't see the connection between the logo and the player models for the game. Sorry that I'm being a ball buster, but I'm really tired of spam.. RE: Inspriation for player models - norbert79 - 03-25-2010 Happens, no worries. Actually, do you remember "Half-Life Blue Shift"? The main character was also just a guard, doing his own business and his daily work until the whole mess started. Having such minor characters in the main character line can also be a refreshing thing, like viewing things in the Star Wars Universe from the point of view of the clone soldier, or the guy sitting at the control panel of the main death-ray, or the guy in the canteen, if there was any such thing on the Death Star . I am just also experimenting with ideas, if we are looking for fresh ideas, I think cutting away from the usual "I am the soldier, I kill things" to a level, where this "universe" is being shown in a different perspective too, can be refreshing. RE: Inspriation for player models - Aleator - 03-25-2010 I see. Go ahead, than. Intresting player models... There may should be a lot of different models. Not just robots and soldiers. What about some models we´ve never seen? (Creatures of all types...?) The idea of a creature with 4 legs was very intresting! |
