New ambient and event sounds. - unfa - 06-14-2011

Hey, is anyone interested in some futuristic ambient sounds for maps?

I think I can sythesize quite a lot of nice noises for those environments.

What do you guys think? New ambient sounds would be cool?

I also think that every map could have it's own unique ambient sound somewhere.

I made something with LMMS to demonstrate what I mean and try my synthesizing skills. Those sounds could be looped for use in maps of course.

There are some that could also work for thing like buttons, doors, elevators etc. Those are pretty simple, maybe I'll be able to make something more useful, but probably most stuff should be recorded in real environments.

I made a few for UFO: AI.

I'll see if I can dig up the thread. They are GPL2 so I can just go fetch them off of omploader.

Heres the thread: http://ufoai.ninex.info/forum/index.php?topic=3580.msg32562#msg32562

And heres the sounds, I don't have source files for them though.

Also the site Freesound.org can be a great source for CC-licensed samples.

Wow. some of those are really good.
The Thunders, are they real recordings or synthesized? I can't tell.

Now you just need the "Near Strike" thunder, you know, like the one from the strike that takes out the tree in the back yard. Maybe even closer than this one.

Well, I'm hunting the lightning everytime the storm shows up, but it's really hard to catch good sounds.
