Anyone had a go with a Occulus Rift VR headset yet? - kojn^ - 09-12-2013

Just wondering if anyone had or not, read up quite a bit about it last 2 days and seen it combined with the Virtuix Omni..looks quite impressive how it works.

So if you have had a go with a pair of the goggles, opinion? Smile

It looks pretty cool indeed, especially horror FPS games with it! Big Grin probably too expensive for my wallet but if you can afford it I bet you won't be disopointed. Doom 3 should be available on it too iirc.

Yea I was looking at it, I may get one of the development kits as I am impatient and it isn't TOO much spare money for me. FruitieX has had a go with one, said it's insane Smile

Development kit? How is it integrated in games, do you implement something in the game engine or does it adapt to some kind of controller settings?

It has to be integrated in games. You have to map the head positioning to camera movements if you want to be able to look around. That means separating crosshair and view center. It also probably has specific rendering needs to be able to show 3d and project the scene the right way.

So no, there's no plug-and-play in that sense. Games have to be adapted to the device.
