Duel/Lower skill Tourney #1 - Mirio - 04-29-2014

Here it is, the first bigger tournament for lower skilled duelers!
tl;dr: A "quickcup style" tournament (similar to previous Duel Tourney #2).

1. General

Join #xonotic.duel

1.1 Format

Either a Double Elimination (DE) bracket or 2 Groups (depends on number of participants)

1.2 Playing

- Best of 1 (Bo1)
- Heads/Tails->Cointoss + Drop-Drop-Drop-Drop-Drop-Drop -> Remaining map gets played

- Best of 3 (Bo3) (= 2 map wins needed)
- Heads/Tails->Cointoss + Drop-Drop-Drop-Drop-Pick-Pick -> If it ends 1:1 the remaining map is the decider. No draws possible.

- Best of 5 (Bo5) (= 3 map wins needed)
- Heads/Tails->Cointoss + Drop-Drop-Pick-Pick-Pick-Pick -> If it ends 2:2 the remaining map is the decider. No draws possible.

Note: I will announce it often, because the bracket will be likely quite messy.

1.3 Duration

Start: 26th May 2014

If a player does not play a match, he will lose it by default. If you have real trouble you should message me!

1.4 Demos
Admins can ask a player to give them their demos. If a player refuses to give them, a warn will be issued.

1.5 Registration
You can register from NOW until 25th May 2014 by a) posting here (please post Tongue) or b) messaging me (Mirio) somewhere!

Note: I am not sure yet where to draw the line between lower and middle skilled, so just post here.

1.6 Admins

2. Matches organisation

2.1 How-to
Simple: Talk to your opponent and play it on one of the official servers.

2.2 Servers

2.3 Matches report
One of the players should post it in the topic or message me (Mirio), preferable with a Stats URL.

3. In game play

3.1 Game format
- 1v1 Duel (XPM)
- Timelimit: 10
- Fraglimit: 0

3.2 Mappool

TBA/Top 5 from poll (VOTE)

A match has to be played again if the players did not play it on one of these maps.

3.3 Forfeiting

You may forfeit during a match of course (vcall endmatch), without getting penalties.

Maybe you should do ~100-300 Elo for the entry-level tourney and about 300-600 for mid-skill? Let me know if I can help w/ finding the right threshold. Maybe we can just see who signs up and assign thresholds based on the participants.

I was at 350 a couple weeks ago when i was more active, and skiddzie has shot up from 200 recently. 100-200 is good beginner average, 300-500 mid skill, i think

You are proposing a system like we had in the Duel League, with divisions based on skill. That's totally fine - I like it. It just takes more time and it is more work for me, which I don't want to invest.
If someone wants to do a different tournament - sure go ahead! You have my full support.

In the past we had quick cups (say up to 500 elos) for the low/middle skilled guys, where the middle skilled players got some fame so to say (the last one not too long ago).

This is supposed to be exclusive for the weaker duelers to make them play amongst each other, have fun and win some maps. Mainly to have them in the spotlight of the attention (which is not the case in Duel League).
It should be running quite fast, so there would be time for the team modes after.

I'll participate. I can't transform into a super saiyan yet but my power level is below 9000....

Just kidding. I can transform into a super saiyan 2 and beat everyone besides the players who can transform into a Super Saiyan 3. Hope everyone likes my dragon ball jokes.
