Cool new FOSS multiplayer FPS (Terminal-Overload) - poVoq - 08-06-2014 http://www.terminal-overload.org/ Released their first alpha a few days ago, and you might know its (non-FOSS) predecessor Revenge of the Cats:Ethernet. Runs on Linux and Windows. Contributers very welcome. It's already a quite playable team-based multiplayer game. You have to capture zones and it is a bit Tribes like. RE: Cool new FOSS multiplayer FPS - Smilecythe - 08-06-2014 Does it have Instagib? RE: Cool new FOSS multiplayer FPS - poVoq - 08-06-2014 Luckily no, but cool disk weapons like in tron :p Here is a vid with some gameplay (actually from RotC:Ethernet but it is more or less the same): http://youtu.be/h6hIaibTYU0 And an explanation of gameplay: http://youtu.be/SnRJbxadTO4?t=2m24s Edit: The home-page linked in the OP has a video of the actual 0.1 FOSS version. RE: Cool new FOSS multiplayer FPS - kojn^ - 08-06-2014 I watched the gameplay video. Literally no idea what the hell is happening!! Looks interesting though so I will probably take a look RE: Cool new FOSS multiplayer FPS - Mr. Bougo - 08-06-2014 (08-06-2014, 11:33 AM)poVoq Wrote: Contributers very welcome. Are you involved in this? I'll check it out later. RE: Cool new FOSS multiplayer FPS - poVoq - 08-06-2014 (08-06-2014, 03:32 PM)Mr. Bougo Wrote: Are you involved in this? I'll check it out later. It's a totally open development model, but so far it is mainly fr1tz working on it (the original creator), but I helped set up a forum: http://forum.freegamedev.net/viewforum.php?f=87 (I'm Julius other there) and was instrumental at convincing him to run the original successful indiegogo campaign. Now that the first alpha is out, I have also started looking at contributing some models and other art assets. RE: Cool new FOSS multiplayer FPS - poVoq - 08-07-2014 Fly into the area controlled by your team (same color as your etherform = "fireball") and press the left mouse button to switch to normal FPS mode. I guess a small getting started tutorial would be good RE: Cool new FOSS multiplayer FPS - cvcxc - 08-12-2014 Is this still there? I can't access terminal-overload.org and it seems like the forum doesn't exists on my side: ethernet.wasted.ch doesn't work either RE: Cool new FOSS multiplayer FPS - poVoq - 08-12-2014 The freegamedev.net forums are shortly offline since our "founder" forgot to renew the domain... terminal-overload.org works over here though. Forums should be also back up within a few days at most. Edit: all should work again now. RE: Cool new FOSS multiplayer FPS - poVoq - 08-15-2014 Test game today! Countdown here: http://www.timeanddate.com/countdown/to?iso=20140815T19&p0=270&msg=TOL+Play+Session There is also an online server browser that alerts you if someone is playing: http://aims.wasted.ch/tolservers/ RE: Cool new FOSS multiplayer FPS - end user - 08-15-2014 (08-15-2014, 07:57 AM)poVoq Wrote: Test game today! I'll see if I remember to this week end although the game is not build to run with out a graphical environment. I tested out Xvfb but even though it say its installed when I try to run a test session the os just tell me the Xvfb is not installed. Weird... RE: Cool new FOSS multiplayer FPS - unfa - 08-18-2014 The website and dev forum works on my side (location: Poland). It looks like possible to play on my GPU, and might be good fun, gonna try it, thanks! RE: Cool new FOSS multiplayer FPS - poVoq - 08-19-2014 fr1tz is also looking for a composer to aid with a dynamic music system, maybe you are interested? Are you trying to recruit people from the xonotic team?? Tell fr1tz we're looking for engine devs. RE: Cool new FOSS multiplayer FPS - unfa - 08-19-2014 * OpenSource Game Developers Exchange * poVoq: sounds appealing! I've done some experiments with dynamic music and that's something I'd like to investigate further. RE: Cool new FOSS multiplayer FPS - aa - 08-20-2014 Yep, slave trade like footballers. RE: Cool new FOSS multiplayer FPS - poVoq - 08-25-2014 New video of a recent test game: http://youtu.be/yPNLQbaG5qE RE: Cool new FOSS multiplayer FPS (Terminal-Overload) - poVoq - 09-05-2014 New testing release with additional maps and other features is available, and there is a developer's match tonight. RE: Cool new FOSS multiplayer FPS (Terminal-Overload) - poVoq - 10-22-2014 New website and recent new release (0.3.1). Join a play-session in about an hour Now supports charged jumps as a cool new game-play mechanic. Join a play-session in about an hour I have some problems in Linux with it like changing the weapons. Apparently is not implemented very well vs windows plus I can't connect in windows anymore. Say my client doesn't match server version or server art etc... My server is still running. RE: Cool new FOSS multiplayer FPS (Terminal-Overload) - poVoq - 10-23-2014 Yes input is a bit flaky under Linux, I think fr1tz just merged from upstream Torque3D, so hopefully this will get a bit better in the next version. If someone is experienced with SDL2 under Linux help is also appreciated, see: https://github.com/fr1tz/terminal-overload/issues/24 Otherwise, make sure your windows version really is 0.3.1 as 0.3 still uses the old master-server. If that isn't the issue, please report the bug here: https://github.com/fr1tz/terminal-overload/issues |
