Plan to add remakes of classic UT maps? - Atalanttore - 05-30-2010

Hi

Is there a plan to add some remakes of classic Unreal Tournament Maps to Xonotic?
For example, i really like the UT99 map CTF-Face and its fan remakes.

Regards,
Atalanttore

No.

Well, if some mapper wants to do it, we're not going to stop them.

I don't get it, why not?

Probably because Xonotic should have it's own original maps XV22, maybe someone might make a good remake of one and it could be possibly be included but I doubt it.

I can imagine one or two remakes (like Dark Zone, Facing Worlds, or Condemned) being cool in the offline mode to serve as some type of HOLY SHIT! moment that pays tribute to the Quake and UT games, but other than that I think it should be all original maps and Nexuiz remakes.

This would be neat for custom third party maps, but not for official ones. It would be virtually impossible to remake classic maps and not run into copyright issues, which could contaminate the core came if distributed together.

I don't see why 3rd party re-makes of 3rd party maps would cause copyright problems as an official map. As long as you give credit where credit is due and gain permission from the original developer as well, whats the issue?

A game shouldn't have remakes of maps from other games as official included ones. Think about it.

It's derivative and unoriginal. They usually do not fit the style of other maps, too.

OK, I get it now Big Grin
