Very interesting. Thank you for posting it here.

Mhm. You obviously registered to this forum to make that announcement, but (for my part) I'll let it slide because it's an event and it doesn't seem too competitive with our interests.

Open source .map file, I like the spirit Smile

Yeah, I know the kind and I know that posting this feels like hit and run spam but in this case, it's really not about that. We just want to reach as much people as possible to pay tribute to this classic. That's the whole reason for the .map file requirement. It's an community thing and even if we're divided I feel we still owe it to Quake 3.

So thanks for letting it slide Smile

RE: MapCore's Quake 3 15th Anniversary Contest - SpronyvanJohnson - 11-16-2014

We are slowly reaching the end of the competition. For that reason I've written a progress update. Be sure to check it out here. Of course we've got some screenshots as well plus a dedicated server for testing purposes. We still got a couple of weeks left so I you have too much time on your hand you can still jump in!

Is id going to add any of the winning maps to QL? I know the maps are made specifically for Q3A, but it would be cool if they added them into QL.

That's what they always do lol. Probably don't even need to be 1st place to get in QL.

RE: MapCore's Quake 3 15th Anniversary Contest - aa - 12-23-2014

Wait wait wait, where is Justin's map???

EDIT: Here are all participants results. I was surprised Justin got 7 place, certanly deserving more.

RE: MapCore's Quake 3 15th Anniversary Contest - SpronyvanJohnson - 12-23-2014

Yes, something went wrong with Copy & Paste. Changed it now.

RE: MapCore's Quake 3 15th Anniversary Contest - Justin - 12-27-2014

If anyone is interested, here is the link to the lastest version of Reco.
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/90490112/reco.pk3
  • It should run on Xonotic, but one texture and one model will be missing and teleporters won't work as they should (wrong angle).
  • the scale of Quake is different then Xonotic one so map might appear cramped and too small.

Thank you Aa, but not really. There were some great quality maps out there by other participants and judgement was fair. Mabye next time...

PS: If anything doesn't work : tell me I will try fixing the map. This map CANNOT BE RELEASED UNDER GPL LICENCE. It doesn't mean that you can't check it out though. Have fun!

PPS: If anyone is interested in creating content for Quake: There are several good things, like that you can work with cgtextures.com (huge texture base), awesome community but also drawbacks: Old engine, difficult editor to work with, bugs, etc... Overall Its a new experience and nice thing in your portfolio if you think about Level Designing job in a future. I felt like I was not fully designing but rather fighting against editor itself (GtkRadiant-1.6.4 on Win 8). I hope there will be better optimized version for this OS in the future but the odds are very little.
