Hi I am new to Xonotic. I just recently discovered the game. - RON1997 - 11-06-2015
I recently got Xonotic. I realize that now the game is kind of old, but it is a very good game. So is Cube 2 and Assault cube. I have put Linux on my laptop last year and I was looking into all of the games released for Linux and found these three games. Honestly, I think that more people should know about this game. I almost think it should be advertised. Dispite the games age I think lots of people would still like it. Too bad there is not many people online on the servers.

High and welcome. Depending on your distro check which version you are running some distros might be behind. Newest is available here http://www.xonotic.org/download/ if you prefer to run the GIT version you can follow these instructions https://gitlab.com/xonotic/xonotic/wikis/Repository_Access

I have Version 8.1 I don't use the software center unless I have to, because of the fact that it tends to be behind. If I don't use the software, it is because I am having trouble installing it manually. I just go Linux so I am still learning how to use it, but I am doing well currently. I downloaded the latest version and I use that. It didn't give me much trouble like other games do. Like I said I know the basics pretty well but I am still learning.

I havn't been here for very long, but i wouldn't say the game is old in a way.
Well graphically it is of course (not like i care though).
But' it's still supported and being developed upon, so it's not in that sense.

I don't care much about graphics as I do game play. After all, what good is a high graphics game without an equally good game play. Xonotic is a very fun and addicting game.

Pop on IRC RON1997. It's easier to coordinate games and some of our servers are hooked up to certain channels like #smb #smb.1v1 and #xonotic.smb.

What does Pop mean?
I do not know how to use quakenet IRC. just looking at the page made my head spin. It is too complicated for me.

IRC is a chat system that's has been around for a long time and predated most messengers and social media by ages. It was really popular in the early 90's to early 2000's. It declined after that as forums and ICQ/MSN came on the scene.
Its easy to use. Quakenet IRC servers as popular for gamers but there's tons of IRC server networks out there. To use Quakenet you can use a web client here https://webchat.quakenet.org/ the channel you want is #xonotic (remember the hash tag first)
If you want a IRC client on your computer Hexchat is good. You can download it here https://hexchat.github.io/downloads.html or for Linux it should be in your software repo for your distro.
