Xonotic Sunday Cups - Season 1 - Mirio - 04-04-2016

We would like to present a completly new format in Xonotic: Duel Sunday Cups!

We will host a Duel Cup each Sunday in April and May. Players will receive points (see distribution below) for their placement in the cup.
At the end of the season, the 8 players who collected the most points will battle out a champion in a Final Cup, which will have a prize pool as well.

Quick facts:
- 1v1 Duel (XPM)
- Servers: WTWRP, pacman, FPS, HUB, psyx, EAC
- Timelimit 10, no fraglimit.
- Modus: Double Elimination
- Mappicking: Drop-Drop-Drop-Drop-Pick-Pick at Bo3 [Winner Bracket]; Drop-Drop-Drop-Drop-Drop-Drop at Bo1 [Loser Bracket]
Grand Final - Bo5: Winner Bracket Winner will be 1-0 up and has to declare which map he auto-wins. Loser Bracket Winner picks the first map, after that the map loser continues picking.

In case of a tie, the player with more cup wins will be ranked higher. If the cup wins are tied as well, more 2nd places are the next criteria and so on.

I for one would like a cup without aerowalk for once, and I know quite alot would disagree with me on that, but still.

My point was, surely it's about time to remove quake Live maps from the list and just populate it with Xonotic maps.

There is more then enough good quality Xonotic duel maps now.

I agree. I dunno why you want bloodrun and lostworld. These maps are kinda weird in Xonotic.

Duels not my fav mode, but i realy don't understand why hub and ztn so popular in xonotic, there is a lot of good exclusive xonotic maps which more fun to play.

@kojn - as they say, "variety is the spice of life"! The same map pool every time gets old quickly. Personally I voted for all of the good new-ish maps. I'm quite tired of watching/commentating hub matches.

some maps just stand the test of time for more than a decade. Nothing too surprising. If you set up a public vote like that, the results reflect that. I wouldn't say that xonotic maps are too much behind either. Although these are the ones that most frequently appear in tourneys(finalrage, stormkeep, silent siege etc). I guess another factor is that people just aren't confident or willing enough to try out something completely or relatively new/different, as they have little experience with that which in turn would influence their performance in the tournament.

some maps without nex is really wanted to these lists.
So voted for darkzone just for the sake of no nex. Recently played bloodrage, was a very good map. Would be a good addition imo! I know darkzone causes shivers for ppl so bloodrage would replace my vote if it was there!

FE26 / Final Rage / Fuse / Luminar / Mint / Silent Siege / Stormkeep

FE26 because it's an oldie that can be quite fun.
Final Rage/Fuse/Silent/Stormkeep because they're stock maps that are suitable for duel.
Choosing Luminar because it reminds me of Roughinery from UT2k4.
And Mint is also really good fun and very diverse in it's opportunities. I'm glad it's currently leading with 13 votes.

I also want to join the movement in banning all Quake maps. Xonotic is depressed with them, and they're not particularly great for Xonotic (or even Quake) in terms of gameplay. The only Quake maps that deserve to be in any rotation are Aerowalk and Warfare, and that's because they've seen community involvement AND they're playable (unlike Bloodrun).

I'm sure it would be played more if it was shoved in the map pool once in a while instead of having the community vote for the maps every time. Especially on a tournament that motivate$$ people to practice Wink

Rather than "unplayable" I think Xonotic item/weapon balance doesn't do Bloodrun much justice. It's a much better map to play on Quakeworld imo.
