Compiling NetRadiant on Windows - rfx - 06-21-2010

Hi,

I posted over at http://www.alienTRAP.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=6289 but was suggested to post here for a broader audience. Hope that's ok in that regard. I found some threads talking about NetRadiant here, but no specific about compiling NetRadiant on Windows (specifically on Windows 7 in my case).

Basically, it's not such much a question about compiling NetRadiant itself actually. Thanks to the COMPILING [1] instructions included, it worked without much hassle.

However I cannot complete the whole process of building the bundle which I'd like to do. The build instruction don't contain the info where to get the necessary binaries to complete the build instructions: fetching of the gamepacks requires unzip, git, svn and wget; none of which I've.

Now there are a few downloads to be found, but since the build process requires this special MingW environment I'm unsure if it's OK to put just any kind of the exes into the path or if it would be wise to use MingW-specific binaries of those applications. And if so, I tried hard with Google, but couldn't find clear downloads for them. Especially when it comes to git-core I'm unsure which of the DLs [2] I'd need (if that's the proper DL anyway).

I'd appreciate some tips how to complete the environment.

thanks!

PS: Is there bugtracker for NetRadiant or some dedicated list to discuss NetRadiant specific things, like bugs, suggestions, etc.?

RE: Compiling NetRadiant on Windows - Mattias - 06-21-2010

Hi!
I've compiled it, it requires some knowledge like how to set PATH's in windows for binaries etc.
If you get on IRC I can help you step by step, channel: #dietunichtguten , server: irc.quakenet.org : easiest way is to go here: http://webchat.quakenet.org/ then choose a nick and channel.

If you can compile Xonotic, there is just a few things left to setup to get netradiant to compile. Maybe you could compile a set of instructions and post it here after you get it working.

My name is Mattias on IRC too. Just write my name to flash me there.

Hi,

thank you Mattias for helping me out on IRC! :-)

Basically it boiled down do that I can use whatever binary fits, as long as it's in the path. I simply installed cygwin because it was super-easy to set up and choose to install the four required binaries and now packing up everything works really nice.

thanks again!

Still can't find package libgtkglext1-dev, and my workaround stopped working.

I think you refer to your thread at http://forums.xonotic.org/showthread.php?tid=618&pid=8348#pid8348 ?

Is there a particular reason you're compiling with cygwin? I did not, I'm solely relying on MingW for it and it worked so far for me.
