[RC2] z-2dxpm - A 2.5d DM map - -z- - 01-19-2018

z-2dxpm
This map was created to demo the freeview shooting possible with the side-scrolling camera Mario has coded into Xonotic.  THIS MAP REQUIRES THE GIT VERSION OF XONOTIC!

Mario and I started having a conversation around the idea of a DM-focused "2.5d" map in Xonotic, and found some inspiration.  I went with an egyptian theme 1) to pay homage to the map in the video  2) because I love the egyptsoc textures, even though they are considered "lower quality" by Xonotic's standards, the egyptian aesthetic is forever.

One way to think about the game play is sort of like Smash Bros.

Great job!

Is it hosted on some servers? Do we need the latest git version for the client, too?

PS: It reminds me of TeeWorlds, Soldat, OpenLieroX.

RE: [RC1] z-2dxpm - A 2.5d DM map - Mario - 01-20-2018

Server side just needs to be using a recent Git build, client can be any version.

It's currently available on (SMB) USA and Kansas, and all the [HUB] duel servers.

RE: [RC1] z-2dxpm - A 2.5d DM map - -z- - 01-20-2018

Received some feedback on IRC, much appreciated guys! Updated DL in OP, also here: https://dl.xonotic.fps.gratis/shh/z-2dxpm_rc2.pk3

Also, if anyone is interested, Mario and I are going to put together a demo video, and would love to have more players play test together for it.   Find us on IRC to figure out a schedule, thanks.

rc2 changes:
  • glow effect on teles to make it more obvious
  • "bugfix", players didn't like that you could get stuck in the rubble by the stairs, updated so it's out of the player's path.

The screenshots look very cool Smile I hope it becomes playable on the standard Xonotic build sooner or later, then I'll take a look at it.

@-z-, the egypt textures by Sock are great - just so happens that I downloaded them on Friday and have now started re-texturing one of my maps with them ... "low-res" or not, they look cool! Would be awsome if someone made "hi-res" DDS versions of them  Heart

I agree, love the textures.  I experimented with rescaling these 3 different ways, but unfortunately, none were all that great.  These were originally handpainted, so likely done at the size they are.
