The less melodic and in-your-face version is more for the maps. The purpose of this song was to make people want to start Xonotic up. In the maps it can be distracting so the music is designed to be subtle but thematic. Nexuiz/Xonotic has a history of epic menu songs, as do many popular games(Halo for one.
