MUSIC THREAD FOR ALL MUSIC

Hey guys, I've been lurking this thread for quite some time now, I'm thinking about getting into recreational music production. The first thing I've been looking at is getting a keyboard, link This looks like a good choice for a beginner. Before you ask I do have 6 years of classical piano training but I haven't touched one for 8+ months.

Basically, is this piano a good choice for a <300$ budget and what input capture program would you recommend? (free is always better) Thanks in advance

I've always found Casio to have the biggest bang for the buck in keyboards. The purists will wince, but I've never seen anything offer so much for the kind of money you are talking about as Casio.

You didn't mention what OS you want software for. Ardour is free for Linux and has no equal in open source software (IMHO).

If it's Windows OS, then I'm not sure about the free part, but $75 Mixcraft will hold it's own with the big boys and offer unbeatable value, features and quality. I'd put it up against some software costing 10 times as much.

There is Audacity for Windows, but I've never used it and can't really say one way or the the other how it stacks up.
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

The attachment below is a Casio keyboard doing the drum/rhythm tracks as well as all the strings/keyboard parts. (The acoustic guitar is a Washburn D12 and the electric is a Les Paul with an Ibanez bass.) Mixcraft did the recording on a cheap home built PC. Remember, I am old school so it is not like what you guys have been posting on these forums.

Hmmm... - No .mp3 attachments? Let me link instead.

Island - Not really my style music but something I decided to record one day.

He can talk the talk, but can he caulk the caulk?

Chooksta insisted I put this up, so here you go. It could potentially be used for a map, provided I make sure all of the samples and sampled synthesizers have compatible licenses.

The finished version [it still needs mastered] will be a b-side on my Cecil single, which will be released through my netlabel, Mr. McQueen Records hopefully before the end of the year.

The song: http://ompldr.org/vNmU3dg/Cecil%20(Dooti...20Mix).mp3

My netlabel: http://www.archive.org/details/mr-mcqueen-records

I release everything for free download, so feel free to poke around.

Cheers!

this is what i think tracks for an fps like xonotic should be like. this is real BACKGROUND music, and supports the strain (?) by the driving beat.

really cool. now we just need a spacey-ancient-sacred-mystic-temple Big Grin. whatever, you know, a map which fits to that Smile

Okay, here's the final release of my single, with both the original and the 'Dootiana Dirty Mix'. If you think it'd be worth the time, I could probably shuffle things and make sure licenses are compatible to make one of them, or a blending of both of them, more background music-like for maps.

Anyway, free download: http://www.archive.org/details/mrmcq12-j...tein-cecil

Wow! This is one silent tune, but it sounds like totally professional game music. I wound't be surprised to hear this in Quake 3 Smile

Good job!
