[SUGGESTION] DSX (Damn Small Xonotic)

#1
Can we expect a DSX?

You know, a stripped down Xonotic for low performance computers, or for storage on low capacity flash drives <1GiB.

(DSN let me get my frag fix for the first time in months today! Smile)
My will be done.

This would be great! I loved DSN for playing on my crappy laptop (iBook g4, Ubuntu) It gave me about a 60% performance boost and actually made the game playable (to a degree). If anything i could at least watch a game and get somewhat of a fix.
Latest obsession.

So what is your suggestion for minimum requirements?
What about 16 MB of VRAM & a Pentium 3 or better?
Anyone thinks the bar should be lowered?
Whats the requirements for the normal version?
What about 256 MB of GDDR-SRAM & a Pentium 4 2.4 GHz or better?

Recommend min. spec for DSX with minimal fluff/effects, etc...:

64MB+ Gfx card
128MB+ RAM
1.0GHz+ Processor

Recommended min. spec for Xonotic Full on minimal settings:

128MB+ Gfx card
512MB+ RAM
2.0GHz+ Processor

Full experience can go all out of course at maximum and be mixed and matched on user whim.

The Graph card really is the most important I think. I have 2,1GHz processor, but a mobile intel graphics card for a laptop. And it really ain't holding up very good.

Also have 3GB DDR2 RAM

Yes, and hello. DSN was an unofficial project, anyway. We will probably just rename it.

As a fellow Intel (4500mhd) gfx user i'm all for it, Its also nice to have a small portable ultra playable version of Xonotic to take with you for where ever the next crappy computer may be.
<[-z-]> have you seen the documentary "happy"?
<Samual_> no
<Samual_> it sounds horrible

I think the minimum requirement for DSX should be something like Pentium 2 and Voodoo, Quake 3 used to run very smoothly on such configurations, or you could also test the application on Netbooks too, those are the main areas where DSX could attend more fans. I used to play FreeQuake on my Eee 701 4G, which ran very smoothly despite the low GFX capabilities.

My guess about the minimum spec is the typical netbook config → Atom 1.6 & 1 GB RAM & GMA950. But all in all it's mostly about the gpu ;-).
My contributions to Xonotic: talking in the forum, talking some more, talking a bit in the irc, talking in the forum again, XSkie
