Monsters with the old models are available in 0.8.1, but these new models won't be available until the set is complete (will include some much-needed code changes to support them properly).

Morphed has finished the Mage, and will begin work on the next monster once payment is sorted.
Spoilers:
That model should be a player model, I'm sure it would be used alot just like Mega Erebus. Probably be one of the most popular ones, if it was a player model.

I doubt it because the majority of players who pick mega erebus pick it up for it's visibility, not it's looks. The appeal of mega erebus is that you can shove in those neon colours and make it pop out from surrounding visuals.
The other models actually aren't that skinny compared to Mega Erebus, it's just the skin that's hard to see.
Here's Erebus with the same skin as Mega:
And here's Mega Erebus for comparison:
I have a branch soon to be merged that provides alternate fullbright skins for all the standard player models, should allow some variety on public servers.
Has there been any progress in integrating this? I was hoping for 0.82 but that obviously didn't materialize.
Also, is Morphed still working on commissioned weapons? Would be nice to crowdsource some funds to let him also do the energy weapons and maybe modernize Super Erebus (and other playermodels?) a bit?
The models are complete, but the monster AI is in need of some heavy improvements before they can be dumped in. Hoping to see them in the next release though, we have someone looking into it.
From what I've heard, Morphed is taking a break now, so more models may be a fair way off (if at all a possibility).
Why donate for monsters? Why not to replace the awful cells models?
The cells model is used since the nexuiz beta!!!

<bluez> halogene, you make awesome music, but you have no clue about ctf.
<Halogene> I didn't know mappers include some mysterious waypoints so members of the BOT clan can navigate a map?
<divVerent> if you don't pay for a premium account, your movement speed is limited to 100qu/s
Morphed has agreed to replace the ammo models when we've finalized the weapon and ammo system changes (plasma still hasn't been fully implemented for the vortex, for example).
Also, the current ammo models at least look alright - the monsters were Quake 1 quality floating cloaks...

Sorry for resurrecting the thread, but I've been interested on this gamemode and these new plans with new monsters ever since I heard of it in 2014.
I really like FPS arena games, but I was never very good competitively and as I get older my speed and reflexes are not getting any better, so a more coop-ish gamemode would be something I'd be interested to play.. even more so if it's also playable singleplayer.
I have this theory that the reason Arena shooters aren't very successful nowadays is because the hardcore players from the gold Quake & UT days are too old now to play well or don't have the time to do it while younger players are usually seeking for games that give instant gratification and are not so much into repetitive training to get good, preferring slower paced FPS or at least FPS with an interesting theme they like getting immersed in (I know some that need games to have realistic guns, for example). I think trying out new gamemodes that are a bit less competitive or that at least can have more of a coop aspect to them would help Xonotic.
Is there a way I can play this invasion "official mode as of latest Git"? even if it means using the old models, just to check it out. It doesn't seem to be in the list of gamemodes from the official client. Does it require a map that's not included or some console commands?
I tried them out, it's quite cool, although I couldn't see the score increasing for monster kills that you mentioned, I don't think I was actually running on invasion mode, just a deathmatch by myself, with some monsters (not many, not really much of a challengue). I liked the red coins to be collected in the sandlands.

Rocket Arena Xon map that I made has invasion in it. Back when I had time I was working on some invasion maps for a arcade like server. Still have mimiman on room somewhere that has invasion too. Not sure if its still the care but you might have to install the SMB mod to get invasion on your local install.

There is a branch in development containing these new monsters (minus the tree monster on the side - that was just an experiment based on an OGA model), it is intended to be merged with the next Xonotic release.
