Umm.. i am afraid it became a little bit too generic looking. It simple does not have the slick alien blob character it used to have.

I like the model but I prefer the color scheme from the first concept. Something with a negative explosion force has to be pretty high-tech so a shinier and lighter look would fit it better IMO.

Idk if I'm the only one to notice, but the new mortar and crylink model have a siluette that resemble the old models a lot. With a quick glance, I don't always realize/notice the difference. I also play with r_showsurfaces 3 which disables textures, which further enhances this delusion. I think it's a good thing, still wishing for LODs though Tongue

As for the texturing on the new model, I kind of half agree with some of the critics here. The dark gritty parts don't look very good, but on the other hand I like the lighter gray parts. It however looks better on morphed's screenshot and significantly worse on Mario's. Is it the fov or the lightning? I don't know. I still prefer this one over the old overly glossed model though. Gloss and low resolution texturing just doesn't mix together well.

Been working on getting a bunch of models from OpenGameArt.org into Xonotic, for the most part, this is just about renaming a few files, sometimes resizing.

Good suggestion.  A bit out of scope for this specific demo map,
Once I get the repository more organized, and Mario's ported models added to the repository, I'll make it public, and would be totally open to:  1) new maps that help demo the props  2) PRs for existing map refinement to make the demo maps more immersive, or what have you.


Also, I've already started organizing the models in another way that will be a bit more methodical, and hopefully easier for mappers to consume for use in their own maps.  Basically a "stuff depot" with a garden center where you can walk around the store for collections of similar props, and the garden center is pretty self-explanatory Smile

"grass" is in my backlog.  Unfortunately, I had trouble with the first pack, "flat grass" -- I'm not sure why yet.

I have basically rewritten the shaders for models and skybox, and deleted any trace of Cel shading (I dont like it).

Quick render of high poly version of new Electro, feedback is welcome. I tried to make it look similar to the old one, I wonder what you think. Tubes at the top and sides will be animated when shooting, either contract or extend.
