List of Free/GPL Models & Programs

This is a repost of a thread I started on another forum. This is one of two threads I'm reposting here. I have a feeling they should be posted in the "Edit" forums, but I'm not entirely sure they belong there.

This list has not been updated in over two years so many of the links may not work. I cannot be arsed to bother to find which ones do and do not work.

If you find a non-working link, please make a post and I'll update the thread.

If you have anything to add to the top thread, or if you want to make additional changes, post here, send me a PM, or contact me on IRC.

Models -
FlightGear Flight Simulator Aircraft Models
Quote:The list below includes MSFS aircraft that have been released under the GNU GPL by their authors.

Animation -
Cryptic Animation Rig -
License is listed under the download section. It'll be right in front of your face.

Modeling -
QuadFractal -
First one at the top. Already checked the source code and verified that it is GPL.

Ray Tracing -

Modeling/Animation/Rendering/Ect. -

Unsorted Programs -
These programs were just discovered and needs to be sorted out. When they'll be sorted out is up to the thread started and/or the people who want to sort it.

[Looks like their website is broken. This hasn't been updated in years apparently. It's LGPL for those who want to know ahead of time.]

bCAD for DOS
(A versatile entry level tool for 2D draughting, 3D modelling and photo-realistic rendering.)
[You must be joking. This thing goes back a long way. Hey, on the bright side, it is free so people can knock themselves out with it.]

Behemot Editor
(A graphics program which allows to model and render 3D objects and scenes.)
[BSD License for those who want to know ahead of time.]

Calimax Modeller
[Someone want to translate me the description for this thing is? It says freeware but I'm skeptical.]

(A complete 3Dlandscape generation and visualisation tool. It creates scene description files that are renderedusing POV-Ray (an excellent freeware ray-tracing program).)
[Freeware version, I'm going to guess, is for non-commercial use only. Someone confirm this for me.]

(a 3d modeler, skeletal animator, and a level editor. You can edit the meshes of supported models and make models from sratch. It can produce non-amimatied meshes, skeletal models, and edit vertex frame animation models.)
[GPL for those who want to know ahead of time.]

(A free spline based patch modeler for the Windows environment.)
[Someone want to confirm the usage for this program?]

The IRIT modeling environment
(A solid modeling environment that allows one to model basic, primitive based, models using Boolean operations as well as freeform surface's based models.)
[Download links are located all the way at the bottom of the page. It's like they are trying to hide people from getting it or something.]

(An open standard for LEGO CAD programs that allow the user to create virtual LEGO models and scenes.)
[There are various amounts of programs listed on this site so EULA will differ depending on which program you'll use.]

(MINOS extends the capabilities of your existing 2D-or 3D-wireframe-based systems, so you can take advantage of all the benefits solid modeling offers right away.)
[Can someone find out the usage of this program? I found the EULA to be confusing as hell.]

(A general purpose, easy to learn CAD/drafting program for creating professional quality mechanical designs, house plans, blueprints, schematics and charts utilizing ANSI drawing standards.)
[If I'm reading this correctly, on the download page for the Freeware version, it says "Your Drawings Belong to You!" Now can someone confirm this for me?]

[Can someone find the EULA/Usage for these programs?]

(A fast, high quality, RenderMan® -compliant renderer designed to produce photorealistic images in demanding production environments.)
[Ok, this thing is free, the only catch is you have to go through a lengthy process to get it. The only thing that isn't free is the support for it costing in at a whooping 250 USD.]
[There is another method of getting it without going through the lengthy process, but it is illegal to even consider doing it. Before I continue, I do not encourage this kind of action. There is a crack out there for Win32 and Win64 that completely bypasses the license. I can not be held liable if you attempt this method.]

[This used to be a commercial program but is now free. It is useful for generating plants.]

Thanks, this is going to help a bunch =)

I can't believe I posted the same list in both threads when I thought I posted different stuff. Freakin' days after I posted it. It's fixed now. It should be proper. Sorry about that people. I thought someone would have noticed it by now.

I see not all of these are actually relevant to Xonotic, but its a damn nice list anyway. Pymol for instance I use in conjunction with AutoDock Vina for protein/ligand docking and such.

wow AllegedlyDead! THX for this full info Smile

AllegedlyDead Wrote:The list below includes MSFS aircraft that have been released under the GNU GPL by their authors.

There is a huge number of sci-fi models for FS98-X around, but I'm not sure what they're mostly licensed under. (Unfortunately open source isn't at the heart of the MSFS community Dodgy)

Just have a snoop around the misc. section of the download area and you'll see them in their thousands.

(Idea stolen from Mr. Bougo. Hehehehe)

looks interesting to use

I have plan to make my next  3d project in the future and want to share contacts with architectural rendering studio which helped me at once to make 3d model of office. There is no end to the variety of 3D renders you can generate with the help of a best-in-breed digital solution provider. 3D renders have the flexibility and versatility to tackle nearly any visual challenge. They can be photorealistic or artistic.
