A dreamy skybox? - unfa - 07-09-2011 Hello, I have made today an Image with GIMP that is pretty cool I think. Could it be used as a skybox or something for a strange map. I release this as a CC-BY resource. If you use it, add a note that it was made by unfa and that his homepage is http://unfamusic.com. If you want to get source, I can upload it somewhere too. RE: A dreamy skybox? - divVerent - 07-10-2011 I would like to know how you made this, as the texture mapping for a skybox is not exactly simple. RE: A dreamy skybox? - JayWalker - 07-10-2011 I'd definitely like to see some psychedelic skyboxes/textures like this :p Perhaps for some kind of interdimensional/other worldly type map. RE: A dreamy skybox? - It'sMe - 07-12-2011 mmmmh some new map: Augenkrebs_reloaded ![]() RE: A dreamy skybox? - unfa - 07-13-2011 I may make a video on how I made this. But before I do, here is a short list of steps I took: 0. create a black layer of dimensions 2000x2000 in GIMP 1. play on it with w black'n'white gradient tool in difference mode for 5 minutes (it should create an interesting grayscale image 2. play with colors>curves and make something like this: _/|_/''' 3. add zoom motion blur 4. add next black layer and continue working on it 5. change gradient colors to something saturated and repeat the first step on this layer (it should create a colorful mess) 6. set the colorful layer's blending mode to hue (it should add colors to the previously grayscale first layer) That's rougly what I did. RE: A dreamy skybox? - Maddin - 07-13-2011 Is it the only picture? Because a skybox needs 6 images you know. ![]() Anyway nice work! RE: A dreamy skybox? - nowego4 - 07-15-2011 If we could rig up a shader like the starry portals (dynamic-flowing) then it would make a good teleporter surface too. Like the electric feel ![]() To be included it would need GPL v2, CC-BY is not compatible IIRC. +what Maddin said. RE: A dreamy skybox? - Lord Canistra - 07-16-2011 I can't see how this would be of any use in skybox making. They (obviously) need to be seamless and yes, any skybox consists of six images. RE: A dreamy skybox? - Sepelio - 07-16-2011 I'm not a fan of very brightly coloured/high contrast sky boxes. I feel they are rather distracting. Eye cancer n all that ![]() RE: A dreamy skybox? - It'sMe - 07-16-2011 (07-15-2011, 10:40 AM)nowego4 Wrote: If we could rig up a shader like the starry portals (dynamic-flowing) then it would make a good teleporter surface too. Like the electric feel to be official part of the game it needs to be a GPL compatible license sure... But if you share this texture with a map which is not official content of game then it should be fine ![]() The idea of surface for teleporter sounds good ![]() |
