[Easy Community Contest]- Rank Yourself - Ridgebeam - 07-21-2020

How To Participate: 
  • Play Xonotic
  • Calculate Your Stats with the easy formula below
  • Compare Your Score to the chart below
  • Respond in this thread with your Battle-score
  • Display Your Rank any way you see fit
Rules:
  • [Veteran Players] - Multiply: [ Matches x Kills = Rank ]
  • [New Players] - Multiply [ Matches x Kills x Playtime = Rank ] 
  • Play Time Multiplier may not exceed 24 
  • Weekly Rank Updates for participants

How to answer:
  • Respond in this thread with your current overall score (battle-score).
  • Example: 111 x 1868 x 11 = 2,280,828
  • In this example, I earned the rank of Corporal

Caveat:
  • Newer player's ranks don't scale well, so they get the Playing Time Multiplier. Higher-level ranks do seem to scale well, but not with an x24 multiplier. So newer players make sure and KEEP PLAYING MATCHES AND GETTING KILLS!
  • Not allowing Veteran players to multiply their Playing Time is subject to change. And maybe Capped at a lower level.
  • There will be possibilities of earning bonus multipliers from K/D ratios, wins, and other forms of activity to earn higher ranks.
Goal:
  • Rewards just for playing! Sounds fun right!  Big Grin 
  • Display your rank insignia and in-game tags everywhere!
  • Matchup to equally ranked participants
  • Anyone can participate. There is nothing to join. Just repost in this thread.
  • Have Fun!

The rank levels are great, although it's clear that people will have to play longer to reach the highest rank.
It's cool that it is long although they have to last a long time acquiring experience and points that they need. I wonder if the players will reach the highest rank on the chart.

I've conducted some testing with stats taken directly from players who have 5 - 9 years of playing time, ten-thousands in matches played, and hundred-thousands in kills. I have for sure came up with some "General of Xonotic" ranks, the highest rank on the chart. Which maybe could use a new name? =)

I'd suggest looking into ranking algorithms versus these measures, which seem arbitrary if I'm being honest.
Whenever someone brings up this topic I link them to this, which is a well written explanation of how ranks can be calculated. It's a great read and comes along with a detailed companion paper explaining the mathematics. It also has open source code you can refer to.

Does it have any deeper meaning that you seem to get a higher military rank the more you've spent time sitting in front of a desk smiling? At least that's how I think I've earned my credentials so far... I think there's a lesson in there for all of us.

Thanks for the reply. No, there is no deeper meaning...

Perhaps we could drive one up... Like if more new players (private, private first-class, corporals, etc) just realized they were playing against a Colonel or some similar high-ranked player... the newer player may be inclined to be less frustrated with losing so much, and more inclined to play more so they can meet the requirements of the next ranks up =)  - But that is wishful thinking... Perhaps it is just to drive up forum posts to this thread  Big Grin

Checking over your stats and looking at my (silly arbitrary) formula... I put in a stipulation for "veteran" players....which seems to apply to you.
You have more than 400 games played and have more than 1-year playtime (service).

therefore,

Total Kills (at time of posting this) = 178,239

Total battle-score = 2,279,676,810
