Aether?

#1
Who made the map Aether? It is a bit like a remake of farewell.

I have noticed, that there are invisible barriers in the air. I accidently shot them in minstagib mode.

Not only that, but there is invisible hole in the floor, that you can fall through and kill yourself. I have prerelease on my disk, which has neither of those things.

With them map is just annoying to play.

That are player clips, they are normal and they are also on the normal farewell

Used version included, never happens locally. Barrier problem doesn't exist either.

Feel free to name (or set up one, if not) a server with a different version to see it with your own eyes.

Maybe the server's version has a hole there and uses the same bsp name. Then you don't see it but it exists serverside.

i checked the map source. there is nothing suspicious.

why dont you delete the first prerelease version?
the bsp files in the pk3s have the same name, so it could cause trouble.

EDIT: did this happen on the dcc servers?

Isnt there a checksum to guard against different bsp's

I'll remove it from data folder for some online plays and see if problems still exist.

No. The mapper has to version their map properly. It's the mapper's responsibility.

Not sure - anywhere where I played this map (and not local), so this may very well include DCC.

when you find bugs and obscure then provide as much stuff as possible, and especially the server.

I poked Rokenn to update the map to prerelease2.
Are you using any autobuild/git version?

Dude. Chill the f*** out. You think I'm trolling you or what?

As the matter of fact I went to DCC minsta, and managed to record 2 demos - first was recorded with attached pk3 in data folder. Second one - without it.

First one (aether not removed) contains both issues: falling AND invisible barrier, which turns out to be a portal from the other way, teleporting you just down the stairs.

Second one (aether removed): seems like issue did not repeat, unfortunately after removing pk3 from data folder, I've seen only black screen, hence erratic movement. After double checking, size of downloaded pk3 was zero.

According to your demo, the server tells your client the map is at http://delight.vapor.com/maps/xonotic/ae...elease.pk3

But that's a 404. Server admin should fix their download and you should get the prerelease to play on the server.

I just think providing nearly no infos, isnt very helpful and its annoying to ask for every detail.

Its a classic problem. The server has a different map then your client.

I said it before you started complaining. Could've just wait till I got the demos (and that's what I did). Or did you want me to make up fake info on the fly?

Can you please stop with the pointless arguing? You're going in circles there, complaining because the other's complaining.

Just to clear things up, here's the download links:

[OLD] http://ompldr.org/vOHdzbg/aether_prerelease.pk3

Looks like the game ignores the file name after underscores, whoops.

This map was a complete flop and somewhat performance draining. Maybe someday I'll get around to making it from scratch and getting the scale right for Xonotic.

It was a flop because

-- the particle effect was performance draining ... just that
-- and poor color choice -- (trak5 AND purple (with yellow pipes) --- ikk )

I don't think so. What matters for the server and the client is the bsp's name. If the server's bsp has the same name as the client's bsp, even if the map isn't the same, the client will use its bsp. Which leads to incompatibilities.

I have not noticed this map to be particularily bad performing, nowhere in the same city as solarium or red-planet at least (and I tend to play on high visual settings).

And personally, I kind of like color choices. Fits the theme set by other standard maps, unlike classic farewell, even though it didn't look bad by itself.

I also remember that one time when I played on this map that my fps dropped to <10 (I got usually >50 on other maps) so the game was completely unplayable.

again ... just take out the smoke and you fps will be fine ... someone needs to optimize the particles ... (they are also the major slowdown in redplanet)
