Thanks Big Grin

I think that it could work well if I just removed the quiet part in the middle to make it more stable.

Should have posted something like this overhere before submitting it, oh well here's the submission:

(10-08-2012, 11:18 AM)Archer Wrote: Submission for my track Dark Horizon, it was finished for a long time, but I forgot to optimize some bits and pieces here and there, now it's done and ready for ingame usage.

This one is best suited for dark maps, think of graveyards, cemeteries, dark fortresses, or some modern ruins!

Track name: Dark Horizon (Click for SoundCloud preview)
OGG file: Dark Horizon.ogg
Source file: x4_8.als

I'll just repeat what I said for my previous tracks, because the same applies to this one:

This track has been made with Ableton Live 8.0.1.

Some of the drum samples are once again part of public soundfonts, but there's a great deal of home-sampled ones as well, mostly playing on the background (you can hear them somewhere in the intro).

All the other instruments are fully synthesized (By me, custom settings), entirely with the Analog synthesizer in Live and a lot of effects.

I hope it's good enough to be included somewhere in a map :]

Discuss :]

I didn't really change that much from the last version, didn't feel there was need for it, but I just wanna know if people think this is gonna fit Xon.

If people know how to, I would love some to test the track by replacing one of the stock songs to see how it plays ingame, I hope it's not too distracting

Also @FruitieX, nice job mate, it sounds 8-bit ish, and I love that kinda stuff Big Grin

Maybe ask C.Brutail if he will use something similar coming from you for his map 8-bit arena, because I honestly think that map should go with a wicked 8-bit track.

EDIT: shit I discovered a mistake somewhere in my track @ 2:27 (the short deep bass), fixing it asap

EDIT2: okay fixed, all links should lead to the correct version.

^ Yay
I like it, but i think the progression would be more suiting for singleplayer maps (once they land), assault, or onslaught.

Currently working on this: https://soundcloud.com/deshaadman/concep...c-cts-maps

It's in a very early stage still, many things don't sound right yet, but just put it up to give an idea of the overall mood.

It's meant for CTS maps, especially the ones set in space.

The weird start is to make it loop 100% perfectly, but is just temp as it sounds pretty weird right now when starting the track.

EDIT: This might sound a bit better: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/51891186/T1.ogg

Has a great drive to it.

The bit at 0:56 is awesome, especially when the punchy bass comes in (1:09).

Keep up the good work. Smile

I'd like to direct your attention at Autonomous Process, my new track built in lmms-trunk.

And while I'm at it, I'd also like to present you Project Awesome, my new GOOD track built in lmms-trunk without touching pattern editor.

Both tracks are actually unfinished, but they're good enough for a preliminary release (at least Project Awesome is)

Here's a bit of a track in progress. There's still a bunch to do, and it's in the early phases so no fine tuning has been done. As always, open to suggestions and opinions. Note that no mixing or mastering has been done, so expect levels and overall volume to be off.

Not bad! Big Grin The second one would probably fit on a green'ish nuclear map or such.

Here's another that's in the works. As usual, needs work. This one's got a ways to go. Any suggestions/criticism always appreciated.

Maybe a bit more diversity, make it a bit more progressive(if that's the right word) IMO.

Here's a bit more work in progress, trying to find things that fit the game better. Feel like I've been on the wrong track, so let's see if these could work in imaginary gameplay and what adjustments it'd take to work better.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/40671139/Xonotic.../0001b.ogg

I doubt any mapper would choose this for a map, it's too laid back, but posting it anyway because it just came out.

I like the first one; reminds me a lot of the industrial band Front Line Assembly which did work on quake II. However, even though I like it, its a bit of a dated sound. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Xonotic seems to position itself as a retro game. Oldschool FPS with newschool tech. No bubbles involved, I don't know whose bubble you just burst.

Once I post a work in progress, if nobody's interested I won't waste time on it. That's why I post tracks pretty early, but develop the idea enough where a mapper will know if they like it or not, and I can finish/tailor it.

By all means finish the track I like it. Even though I'm not sure people would agree with you about it being retro the gameplay does have the similarities.

Glad I didn't burst your bubble btw Smile

I dunno, ask around, seems like the aim is to bring the ultra fast paced, pure FPS that seems to have been lost among slower and slower FPSs, and war style games. Xonotic seems to get back to the roots that so many FPSers long for. I'll have more tracks in the works, working on gathering suggestions and references from trusted sources as far as tracks that demonstrate the sound that the serious players, mappers, and developers believe fits the unique motif of the game. Xonotic is absolutely my favorite FPS, which says a lot. Been playing FPSs for a long long time now, and Xonotic's really got it going on.

Also feel free to peruse the other tracks I've posted in this thread over the last year or so (unless you already have been following them, there was a long gap there for a while), see if any elements of certain tracks (not necessarily the track as a whole) fit the game and I can work on honing in on that. The easiest way would probably to just go to my profile and 'find all posts.' I honestly don't remember all of what I submitted, some of it might be completely unusable.

Dubstep has been mentioned before, since it's oh so modern (even though it's been around since 1998), but that's the most played out genre I can think of. It got old really fast. Perhaps certain elements of it would work. But replicating the generic type of dubstep popularized by Skrillex and duplicated by countless other acts, I really think that'd be a bad move for so many reasons. Typical fad stuff seems to clash with Xonotic's identity. And this is a strong opinion I've heard from a lot of the dev team. Thanks for the input, man.

Will start following you on soundcloud and if I have the time listen to all your stuff. Aside from xonotic I would have to say my favourite FPS is the Metroid trilogy for gamecube. Its the only FPS series I've enjoyed on console I really don't understand why people whould play games like call of duty and crysis with console controllers. I agree the games ARE slower and the reason is due to the games being aimed AT console users.

I also agree with not having a type of music just because its popular but I like good dubstep. I'm not sure it would fit with xonotic personally. Genre that I listen to whilst playing would generally be jungle, drum'n'bass, hardstyle, progressive trance, drumstyle, drumstep, big beat, breakcore or trap.

Have you got any dubstep that goes back as far as 1998? I really doubt it but still if there is I would like to hear it.

Oh and someone tell me if they'd like THIS sort of sound in xonotic. This IS very early 90's style but here goes: http://soundcloud.com/waltzhybrid92/four-1

Sorry, 1999. But the roots began around '98. The original stuff is pretty cool, was about the interplay of rhythms, not the way it's associated now with just a slow beat and wawas. But El-B was one of the founders of dubstep, started long before it was popular. There's someone else I can't think of at the moment, the name escapes me. Another UK project I think, I've heard their stuff from early 2000s, didn't realize dubstep was that old. I'll post the name if I can find it, a friend of mine was a huge fan of theirs back in the day.

But here's an interesting article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dubstep

Also, oldschool gameplay, not game. Mistyped.

Yeaah for me its not dubstep even if the source makes a claim to it starting in 1999 the sound is much more of dub and illbient but not what I would call dubstep which I would agree started to be called by that name in 2003-2004.

IMO records really doesn't seem to be a valid source anyway what with Hatcha being part of the label and then taking credit for dubsteps inception.

Tried experimenting with Drum and Bass, as it fits Xonotic quite well imo if done correctly (Not that I'm doing it correctly Big Grin).

This is the basic concept for now: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/51891186/DnB2.ogg

These are the bare drums: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/51891186/DnB.ogg

I know the drums sound a little bit crazy, but that's exactly as intended :]

I'm just wondering if something like that would fit Xonotic though.

Let me know what you guys think!

The first one I can actually imagine as an ingame track. You need to put a little bit more aggression in it though when the chords come up at 0:37, aggressive chords, imagine something along the lines of an electric guitar when it does soft chords, like here:

At 0:20 is exactly the sound I mean.

Dunno if you can synthesize something along those lines, but it would pretty awesome for 0:37 and further in your piece, and perhaps more aggressive distorted basses in that part.

But as I said, I can really imagine this being ingame when polished a little bit further, it sounds all fine and very subtle except bass in the end imo, it sounds a bit too "happy" if you know what I mean, maybe select the notes from minor chords instead of major. There were a few other parts where the bass did this as well.

I would make a track out of this if I were you Smile

Pendulla requested me to add a guitar, so I did (Analog synth with guitar amp over it): https://dl.dropbox.com/u/51891186/WIP/DnB3.ogg

The thing is, Samual recommended I should either make the guitar more clean and make it stand out, or ditch it. The big problem is that the base sample is analog, so it's very difficult to make it more clean and make it sound right at the same time.

So I would either have to keep it and make it a bit louder, or simply leave it out.

I wanna know what you guys think: ditch it? Or keep it?

Previous version: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/51891186/DnB2.ogg

EDIT: A new version with a better sounding guitar imo and some other tweaks: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/51891186/WIP/DnB4.ogg
