1500+ map repo now available.

#1
Over a year ago I set up a Drupal based site that had 1000+ maps in it with a directory that showed screen shots/info/voting. I took that down when I left Xon for a while. I've been meaning to get it running again. Time is kinda short ATM to set up the site again but for now I'm posting a link to a public directory with 1500+ maps. You can see the maps here http://repo.null.media/maps and player model here http://repo.null.media/models

I have more model to post just have to dig them out of storage HD.

If all possible please don't try to DL all 10GB of maps at once. If people would like to I could set up a torrent but if you do dl it please see the torrent.

Forgot to add the map collection was compiled by Mario the Plumber Developer

LOL 10GB of maps and counting downloaded by people so far. Not sure if I'll have time to rebuilt the website like before but using Drupal its would be possible to have the list of maps (some what filterable) with screen shots of the maps (using packaged screens would be limited as some maps don't have them so would need to create them) or quick in game video for each maps say hosted on YT. The viewer then could check off the maps they want which would be zipped up and then they could download the zip archive of the maps they want instead of one by one.

If anyone is interested in helping out let me know maybe I'll get a web hosting account to start this. Importing the maps to the server and into Drupal doesn't take much time as its done with a CSV file and the Feeds module which would import all the map names/screens/info into the Drupal DB and create a page for each one automatically.

end user, great job. Thank you!

I remember hearing -z- talking about a map repo server for all. If I understood him correctly, he was thinking about a map file server serving all game servers, i.e. all game servers will have links to this repo for users to download.

However, it might not be very fair for the owner of this repo server to bear all the hosting cost alone. Perhaps we should make a few map packs and distribute through torrent?

Its pretty cheap to host the basic VPS but I noticed the Mario has quite a few more maps now LOL so I might need to get a bigger VPS. Atm its only $9 per month and its not much on what I spent on running Xonotic servers in the last 2.5 year lol. Wife doesn't know how much either Smile

A repo for all servers wouldn't be hard as Xon community is pretty small atm but that's a one point failure for all server so would have to be hosted on a pretty descent host.

Now I reaslly wish I kept a copy of the Drupal site I had before lol memo to self when not wanting to run a community service give the data to someone else who might want to.

Oh OVH is having cu fibre line issues today so site might be pretty slow.

I'm considering moving my maps to Amazon S3 or CloudFront. It's much more cost efficient and reliable. If we go with single repo, that's probably a good route.

This is only $10 per month. Its only 20 gigs but the dl speed is pretty good, usually at home I get 1-1.5Mbit from it. The transfer limit is like 32TB of transfer per month so long way before its used up.

The ftp hosting appears to be down for some reason, but I can still access your root domain. Is there a new link or some reason the ftp server might be blocking me?

Sorry not involved with Xonotic anymore. I planned on leaving the map repo running but was really busy with my shop and forgot to renew the server which was purged later by the host.

So, are there any other public repos for maps and models then?

hack-wizard, I'm not sure about any model repos but there might be a few floating around the forums. there are a bunch for maps though. here's the "official" server thingy - http://beta.xonotic.org/autobuild-bsp/ , i've used this one before, it takes a while to load sometimes and has a bunch of repeats (also, no idea who made it. idk, just try not to download a virus) but it's pretty big - http://smb.djstrikes3.com/ and http://smb.djstrikes3.com/?C=M;O=D . you can also use old nexuiz maps, there should be a few repo's of those right on google, http://maps.nexuizninjaz.com/ is one.

Thanks for the links, and viral troubles are rather unlikely, since I run what stuff I can (including Xonotic) in Linux. Wink

Would you care to explain the C=M and O=D parameters though?
