The Organizational Structure of Xonotic

#1
Introduction

Behind the scenes a lot has been going on in the organization of the Xonotic project. If you're watching git.xonotic.org, forums.xonotic.org, dev.xonotic.org, img.xonotic.org, #xonotic on irc.quakenet.org / irc.freenode.org then you probably have an idea of who has been contributing but there has been no clear definition to the public on leadership roles.

Through forum discussions and IRC chats, the core team has designed an organizational structure and appointed key individuals to positions. In the system design, we've tried to keep the hierarchy as low as possible. Xonotic is free open-source software and we're interested in evolving together with freedoms in tact but too much freedom in system design can lead to nothing getting accomplished. This is why we've appointed the following list of people to guide the direction of the project and ensure the quality of the experience.

Team Xonotic

Core Team
The Core team consists of 6 members who discuss and vote on large project changes. This international group of leaders is a classic group of collaborators who above all else, will try and do what's best for the game and community.

List of Coordinators

Coordinators are here to guide contributors, provide information both in and outside their area of expertise and act as liasons to the core team to ensure the most important information doesn't go overlooked. Coordinators will be the people to ask questions to regarding their subjects. If you're feeling lost, contact these people, their names are linked to their forum accounts.

Note: Many of the core members are serving double roles as coordinators. This is not a considered a conflict of interests in decision making because these members are largely filling the role until someone else who fits the description can fill it.

These coordination positions are time-consuming roles that require dedication, knowledge of the area and sharpened communication skills. If you believe you can be of assistance in this area, you may contact the team at admin@xonotic.org. Don't forget, you can still contribute in other ways without the responsibilities of a coordinator.

I can write well - I know proper grammar usage and I can find ways to make things sound enticing. I can also coordinate the community, but I'm not sure I could handle a "street team," as you guys call it. I'm also doing well in mapping but FruitieX definitely has me beat for that...... I'd be willing to help out under FruitieX's command, however.

Hey guys, Im a pretty accomplished PHP Developer (with commercial experience) and although I don't have any experience with MyBB plugins, I just skimmed through a tutorial, and i think i could get through it pretty easily. I am also a decent writer, with experience of newspaper journalism in one of the UK's top student newspapers (also did a bunch of linguistics at university). Feel free to pm me or email me via info [at] alisdairrankine.com.

I'm a pretty good PHP coder, though I don't have as much experience as ESH. I'd be happy to volunteer my time.
In addition, I'm good with inkscape and can help with vector graphics.

Edit: After closer reading, questions.
How long are terms for these positions? How will (re)elections be done?
How were the legal coordinators chosen? Do they have experience with the law/are they lawyers? Who is the legal team (if we have one)? If we don't have one, what are they coordinating?

It isn't all about being good, eagerness to learn and the ability to dedicate the time to create something good is probably even more important.

There is no definitive term for these positions, basically this means your stuck with these people until you can come up with a very good reason to replace them. As we gain more contributors, it is likely that we will need more coordinators as well. But as always, these positions have to be earned and the current coordinators have proven to have expertise in their areas.

Basically the legal team is just divVerent and me for now. We are not lawyers and our interpretations of licenses do not have any legal value. The main reason we have this section is that we do have a lot of legal issues regarding the licensing of artwork and music. Generally the way we interpret a certain license is leading and questions regarding this should be addressed to us. If we need advise on legal matters, you can trust us to be able to contact real lawyers to give us answers.

I'm interested in helping with the "community coordinator" stuff, but I'm not sure what that entails (I'm in the same boat as Moo, I suppose). I've been a player for a while and I've helped out Doku with some scripting. I'm an Oracle DBA by trade, but can handle other DBs just fine if any work is needed in that area.

EDIT: oh, and I'm also interested in doing video tutorials, although at the moment I suck at it.
asyyy^ | are you releated to chuck norris?

Just a reminder, I have the ldap plugin for mybb written, all that needs to be done is to add in the function calls to ldap and tested, and it's done.

Would be interested as a 'writer' for community tournaments or basic/advanced guide's for 1on1 and a basic guide for TDM.
