Hello
Today I checked the deathmatches maps I have and tried to define at which number of players it plays the best. The goal of this was to identify which maps I can rely on for my next LAN if there is 4, 6 or 8 players, with bots reinforcements or without them.
"Plays the best" is still very subjective (I could keep it for me but I thought someone may find it interesting). I consider the map overcrowded when shotgun is your main weapon and/or you always have someone on screen no matter where you go. So the "best number of players" is in this list the greatest number of players before I feel it overcrowded.
I tested this quickly with a bunch of hardest bots. As human players tend to move quite faster and pick more items the actual result may be a bit lower (bots also tend to stuck themselves in corners on some maps). Also playing clan arena, Nix or Pinata may increase the number of players on large maps with not that much weapons available. This doesn't mean that there cannot be more or less players. More players will tend to have a more stressfull game with continuous (shotgun) fights, less a more tactical play with more room left for items picking.
4 players maps
6 players maps
8 players maps
10 players maps
Bot incompatible maps
In those maps the bots weren't moving at all, thus wasn't tested. I know playing with bots sucks but sometime it's better than an empty room.
Playing team games completely rises the number of players, as your teammates can give you a spare weapon (does anybody do that?) and you theoricaly don't shoot at them. A 4vs4 deathmatch in Xoylent still plays well.
