7zip won't open file as archive

#1
Greetings,

I am trying to open the xonotic-0.1.0preview.zip in ubuntu linux 10.10. I get an error message:

7z x xonotic-0.1.0preview.zip

7-Zip 9.04 beta Copyright © 1999-2009 Igor Pavlov 2009-05-30
p7zip Version 9.04 (locale=en_US.utf8,Utf16=on,HugeFiles=on,4 CPUs)

Processing archive: xonotic-0.1.0preview.zip

Error: Can not open file as archive

What could cause this problem? I have a hunch, but I need a confirmation.

Thanks

lol you just have had no luck getting Xonotic going... I'm on ubuntu 10.04 the simple right click and extract here option worked for me...
<[-z-]> have you seen the documentary "happy"?

Maybe your download is corrupt. I'm using Kubuntu 10.10 Trinity and tried
PHP Code:
7z x Xonotic-20100916-low.zip
which extracted the archive.

Note "Xonotic-20100916-low.zip" is a much older test version, I assume it was built using the same process. I don't have the current 0.1 preview as I already have a git version.

Ok,

I started a bittorent download, but I was only getting 1.6KB/s or a 6d x hours to complete. So I stopped and deleted that and redownloaded from http. I get the same error message that I got before from 7z. I did a check on md5sums and they are completely different.

diff xonotic.md5 xonotic_test.md5
1c1
< aafb43893aa66e01488c817e3a60d96d ---- this is the checksum from the xonotic download page.

> ec4ff32b9668d80db89ce5ced3480a7b *xonotic-0.1.0preview.zip This is the checksum created when I ran the command:

md5sum -b xonotic-0.1.0preview.zip > xonotic_test.md5

So what to do. I can't really wait 6 days for a checksummed bittorent download, my git download is fragged (no maps) and my http download apprears to be fragged as well. Any suggestions as to which area to pursue to get a properly runnning xonotic?

I downloaded the game via http and it worked fine and very fast filling up my 8Mbps download bandwidth.

You could look at the zip with a hex editor and see if it actually contains some data - you may have a 1.3GB zip made of 0's.

Replace the torrent version with the http downloaded version. Then use your torrent client to check the validity of the file. The torrent client should only download and replace the bad chunks.
