Monitors are primarily built to be revealing and exposing flaws in the source material that gets fed into them, which is why those that work on mastering music use them. Also with audio, you can pretty much ignore most specs as a lot of them don't really tell you how they're going to sound or how loud they'll go (though dB measures loudness, and the bigger the drivers the wider the soundstage in most cases). It should also be noted that most human ears can't pick up anything lower than 20 Hz or higher than 20,000 Hz, though I'm pretty sure I'm an exception to that as I can pick up high frequencies pretty well (using a dog whistle near me or setting off one of those silent cell phone ring tones is a surefire way to drive me insane) whereas others can't even detect them.
