MUSIC THREAD FOR ALL MUSIC

#1
I see much threads with music. I think it's better if every music or sound producer post his stuff into one tread. then u don't have to search for it.

here are my files:

Xono
Unnecessary
Scanning
Sad Face
Rats Heaven
High End
Brutal
Breakfast
Sad Jungle
DB7

Sorry these songs are not in .OGG format, ill do this later.

So... post every sound/music here, it's much easier to find everything then.

Music
Hi.
I think this is great! Congratulations, and I look forward to fragging and being slaughtered in Xonotic!. Forgive me for rambling, but I wanted to share some thoughts.

I literally only found out about Nexuiz a few weeks ago and have been playing around with it. In fact, I found out about Xonotic while playing earlier today via the console. Now, I'm not a gamer. Played a little UT about 4 years ago, but don't really game much. I suck, but it's fun.

At any rate, I did a bit of homework on Nexuiz and found that they had gone commercial with Illfonic, and that one of the principle partners is Raphael Saadiq, a musician currently opening for Dave Matthews. That gave me a pretty good indication as to what direction music may take in the new Nexuiz. Access to commercial music that will reap publishing rewards in royalties paid through Nexuiz's release through x-Box, or whatever platforms they decide to eventually release on.

I notice this type of thing....because I'm in the entertainment industry, and share office space with a music publishing company called Modiba, who deal with music on an international level...literally music from around the world.

As such, I remember playing different maps on Nexuiz, and thinking..."It would be cool if 'Desert Factory', for example, could be peppered with Middle-eastern hip-hop, or in the Urban map (can't remember what it is called) would be cool to hear different types of music coming out of different buildings as you pass by them, fragging away. A bit more of a submersed, holistic approach toward music in games where the music is there, but is as much a part of the background as the graphics of the map itself, almost interwoven.

It's tough to give everybody exactly what they want in terms of music, unless you allow the gamer to choose songs out of their own iTunes library, for example. So, what I've noticed, is that the game usually defaults to a generic "theme" song for the map. I believe there is much more room to create an interesting gaming experience through creative use of music, rather than the insertion of commercial music or generic themes. This is probably why I've read different comments about how people actually turn the music off. To me, that's a shame.

Has anyone really seen a game the uses music to "color and enhance" specific maps or sequences in the game? To me, it would seem to add an interesting dimension to the gaming experience....music selections that take their cue form the landscape of the map/environment/situation.

I'd be interested in hearing comments about this. Like I mentioned, I don't game much, so I don't know much. But, in the little bit I've played...and given the business I am in, I thought I would mention it.

Oh, and of course if there are any developers who want to speak more about this, I'd be happy to discuss further as you build the Xonotic experience.

Kay, I definitely like the first song. Sounds like it could be used as the intro theme.

Please, though, use sensible hosting like omploader. I don't want to wait for the music.
Or use http hosting, even better.

Eagle, you raise a good point. I've always had a pet idea for a map where say about 4 corner areas within the map would be assigned as a trigger to change the music to that section's theme. The music would only change when you passed through a new themed area, and each theme would be like 30 to 45 seconds long. I could imagine someone liking one theme more than another and doing their best to avoid the other areas of the map, or a more creative person might add theme music to a demo by running through the right parts of the map at the right times.

I like Xonotic3, Kay. Reminds me of some older orbital. Good menu music.

For anyone looking for hosting, tindeck.com is free and they provide you stats on the file so you can gauge your rise to internet superstardom. They also provide it in bbCode suitble for pasting directly to the forums here like so:

Sounds good. I think Xono as well as the first track (Xonotic) that you submitted for a menu theme are my two favorites. Brutal definitely sounds like a true deathmatch track.

I was going through each of these, and it might be only me, but none of these have fit to the gameplay.
I just didn't like any of these, they just didn't fit to the game's mood. But it's just my opinion only...

I like xono. Sounds like a new beginning. The rest of kay's, however, are a little too calm for my tastes. Rat's Heaven is closer to what I like, but still too subdued. Some references for music artists (songs that I think fit the game):

This is kinda getting out of hand. People should stop posting new threads especially if there is a music related thread already posted. In my opinion all music people need to work together as a team and it makes no sense in my opinion to post some random tracks that "could" fit the game. First of all the composers should get a beta with all those maps to check them out and get inspired from them. Then I would suggest that people start recording music and in the final stage we can put the songs into categories. I think it would be a nice feature to choose from different music genres in the game... lets say hip-hop/pop/rock/techno etc. We have many composers here and I think everyone specialises in a different genre.
