My office computer...At least here i play in peace, only 1 roomate.
God damn Ini dpt, we are all given macs...
Downstairs though in the main lab there is a sexy homemade cluster with 2 30inch apple cinema displays for the front ends . And 2 quad core sandy bridge blah blah linux boxes : ) . And two experimental NVIDIA cards for GPGPU computing which are not on the market. (they suck for gaming though :/ ). But too many ppl to play there
Feel free to bash the apple exhibitionism. I still prefer fedora 6 to mac os x.
@CuBeOwl-Dude that funny light tube you have in your desk is out of palce that poster rokcs though!
@Mirio-Epic desk!
@Rad-dude i m left handed too, but i prefer to play with my right hand setup : ) . what is that freaky set up you have ther?

sounds like you are bashing macs more than anyone else

Haha, in any case the lamp next to my PC is not ME for sure.
...you all seem to love to trigger me lately.

lol If you have a 3GHZ CPU (even if it's a 32 bit single core one like a Pentium 4) you probably won't notice the speed increase. By clearing your desktop, you can make it load faster when you boot up or otherwise load your desktop.

actually I am kind of curious what the average system specs for users are on here. I have noticed that they tend to be quite a bit higher than most average computer users.

Well they'd have to be being that the majority of us all do some form of editing/compiling/gaming etc.

The specs of my nerd station was average 2 years ago when I bought it, and I think it can be considered outdated now:
Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-EP43-S3L
CPU: INTEL Dual Core E5200 2.50GHz 775 BOX
RAM: GEIL Ultra 2048Mb DDR2 800Mhz KIT
VGA: GALAXY 9800GT 512MB Xtreme Tuner PCIE
PSU: FSP ATX-350PNF
HD: WD 320GB 7200rpm 16MB SATA2
CPU COOLER: COOLERMASTER Hyper TX3 (used to be Hyper TX2, but soon it went noisy, and because of the TX2 is out of construction any more, I got a TX3 in guarantee instead).

I ll write to you about the machine i played today from.
CPU:Intel® Core i7-2600K CPU @ 3.40GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux (Quad Core)
RAM:32GB DDR3
GRAPHICS CARDS: 1) is running on the following GPU:
[0] GeForce GTX 580 16 SM_2.0 @ 1.62 GHz, 1535 MiB DRAM, DIS
and 1 Tesla C 2070 (448 CUDA cores, 6 GB memory)
The rest doesn't matter..Then again, i have the same machine at home, hence the tesla card which iirc costed around 2.5K$.
Oh the screen is a sickly nice 30 inch apple LCD one, and a nice apple keyboard too. Annoying to use with linux though. No-one apparently from the 3 ppl that we actively use that box took the effort to fix the apple keyboard mapping ...(the Fkeys@#$!@$@).
Interesting piece of Nerdy trivia. One of the head developer guys of the Portland Group of compilers etc (pgf90 anyone?) told us in a GPGPU workshop that "if you want to play, forget nvidia chips.Ati are so much better. If you want to accelerate your programs, again ATI is doing better using OpenCL. But if you are normal programmers NVidia with the cuda library wins!" .

I got 1.4 MB of porn on a few of these bad boys lol, can't remember the last time I've actually used them. If I ever get around to snatching up some DOS classics, I'll probably find some use for it.

My station, post cleanup:
Desktop Specs:
Ubuntu 10.04 (64-bit)
Core 2 Duo e6550 @ 3ghz
6gb ddr2 @ 870mhz
Geforce 8800gt 256mb

The best part of my nerd station however, is my "subwoofer" that sits directly behind my chair
That's a 30+ year old Yamaha B100II bass amp powering two 12" speakers. I enjoy the back massages I get while listening to dubstep.

@JayWalker
HELL YEAH! Subwoofers sound best when placed directly behind you or mounted on the chair, I actually have two tens sitting behind the couch in the living room here. Also I used to have a Saitek Eclipse, those are pretty decent keyboards that are every bit as functional as they look, one of the best I've ever typed on.
