That reminds me of some of the concept art from the Marathon trilogy. I think there's a texture pack that looks similar enough to produce a screenie that looks kinda like that as well.

<bluez> halogene, you make awesome music, but you have no clue about ctf.
<Halogene> I didn't know mappers include some mysterious waypoints so members of the BOT clan can navigate a map?

Except that spheres of water don't work. I was trying to do a Blitzball*-style map, but the 16-sided sphere brush made of water just wouldn't work, so I'd probably have to screw with the gravity a little. And of course there's a question of health, which would either mean god mode when entering, (which would kill the purpose of the non-teleporter zone, whose purpose is, well, killing the player who falls away from the "foundations" of the stadium... Right...
* Blitzball is a fictional sport from Final Fantasy X, which would have been awesome if only Square didn't decide to make it turn-based and 2D.

Don't think of those images literally. Think of them conceptually.
Some shape or pattern should spark a thought that leads to an idea for a map.
I thought of 10 different ideas for maps while I was posting all of these.
If you can go through this entire thread and still don't have any ideas for map, then I think something might be wrong with your brain. Just sayin'
If you still can't think of anything, then go back through the thread and take longer to look at each image.

Like the intensity pic, the shopping malls, the subway, elevator, cathedral church. Buildings are boring. skyscrapers are not that awesome unless u really make it ridiculously tall like in minecraft. I like the idea of a vacuum with nothing but just low gravity.
E=mc ^ 2 only applies to rest bodies. The one we should be using is E=mc^2 √1 - v^2/c^2

Well, many of the pics above are buildings because those are the most common examples available when looking through futuristic architecture, but you don't have to use the ideas as buildings. They are just patterns and shapes. You can invert them and think of them as rooms, or "unwrap" them and think of them as columns or walls.
That's what I mean about "Don't take these images literally".
indeed, some cool ideas for skyboxes around here (someone up here to make some?)
And I guess we could need a little set of plant shaders (we dont have already some, dont we?) for mappers, as we have here a lot of nice outdoor inspiration
