I am not 100% familiar with the animation process, but I do know that good animations can really add depth to a game
one of the main things that bothered me about nexuiz was the lack of spine deform. this meant that the game characters upper body did not tilt to follow the aim of the player. this just looked odd.
I have no idea how hard it would be to code this, but if there were someone that could, it would make xonotic much better.
the other thing would be reload animations for guns, and animated guns in general (rotating mortar cylinder) but those can be discussed later.
