Which OS do you prefer?

#76
I had the same thoughts as tChr. The question should be for <what purpose>?

On my desktop, I use Windows most of the time and Linux some of the time. Every so often, I'll spend a couple months using mostly linux. But I've experienced difficulties when I use linux. I'm still pulling for it. I expect someday I'm going to move to mostly use linux, but not today. It still feels limited for my most important needs.

I'm wanting to figure out how to run certain apps in windows within a virtual machine - mainly adobe apps. That might be a precursor to switching over to mostly linux use.

I use linux on the serverside always.

Gentoo GNU/Linux amd64 is my favorite OS for desktops Smile
I use Xubuntu on my eeepc because it's easy.
Vyatta GNU/Linux is my favorite OS for edge (gateway) routers, and Cisco makes some mean switches, though I can only afford CatOS switches for my house and not IOS switches Sad

I also run Linux, currently using Mint Debian, but I might switch when I least expect it. Current favorites are Ubuntu + it's spins, Mint, Debian, Arch, and Gentoo.

Now over 730 days without Win. Angel
Wine works. It just works.

mac OS, 10.6.5. it's great for art and graphics design. can also play windows games with wineskin.

I did help my friend install ubuntu 10.04 on his laptop, after his windows install got screwed up. He really liked it, and I would install it on a spare computer, if I had one.

oh, and it was amusing watching him try learn some of the command line functions Big Grin

Windows 7... I've tried Linux a few times, but just couldn't get all of my hardware to work. I also didn't see the point of using it; Windows does everything I want, and it does it well, so why switch?Huh

OTOH, getting the latest version of Xonotic is a PITA on Windows Angry. Guess I'll just stick with 0.1.0 for now.

Pretty much what I would've said if I would've seen that topic earlier than today, seeing as Windows 7 randomly BSOD'd on me.

Running Ubuntu 10.04 (64-bit) on my main desktop and my server, and 32-bit on every other comp in the house. Recently removed WinXP from my main machine when I got L4D2 working under wine Smile So now I'm living in a 100% Linux household.
