Whats the deal with this cmd on normal servers?

#1
Alright someone brought this up again in Nexuiz and it deserves to be brought up here.

r_showdisabledepthtest 1 along with r_shownormals 1 or r_showrtris 1 gives players an unfair advantage by allowing them to see other players around corners, through walls, basically any place where they ducked just out of view, its not a complete view but its enough of one to be called a cheat, and I think it is.
What I want to know is if it can be disabled server side by default and if so why hasn't it been yet? No player needs to have access to this by default and if a dev/mapper or who ever needs to use r_showdisabledepthtest they can have access to it on their server.
<[-z-]> have you seen the documentary "happy"?
<Samual_> no
<Samual_> it sounds horrible

Easy to fix: play Xonotic! Cool

If it feels like cheating, it probably is.

No, but you can mod your server (perhaps CSQC, like it's done in xonotic for r_fullbright) to check for this cvar and disable it/kick the player/do whatever you want.

It's much like saying "play warsow" or "play quakelive". Silly suggestion.

I wouldn't call it "fixed" you can still see people behind walls for a short period of time so the advantage is still there. Is this as fixed as it gets?

That is the definition of not fixed. You can still see player shadows through ceilings, too. Sad

I am using a translator, sorry if not understood.

I would like to add that the day of the date the option is enabled in xonotic. Sad
and unfortunately it seems very unfair.
if you follow this will happen as in nexuiz all that abuse.

would be very nice that could disable the public servers Smile
