What music do you listen to whilst playing Xonotic?

#1
This thread is for all those out there who for whatever reasons don't listen to the in-game music of Xonotic/Nexuiz and listen to something a bit heavier/faster/louder. Music that gets you in the mood and hyped while gaming.

Me personally? Rotator, 16 bit, Dimented Demensions, Meshuggah, Tesseract, Vildhjarta, Cloudkicker, Animals As Leaders, BMTH and others...Mainly djent, dubstep and breakcore atm.

Also I know of chooksta's thread on what music people listen to and for those thinking 'what a noob there's already a thread for this' I disagree. This thread is SPECIFICALLY music you play whilst playing Xonotic (and probably Nexuiz as well) that gets you in the mood equivalent to what redbull does for hamsters (I was gonna say viagra for men but that exludes women who don't use it. At least I don't think they do. Hopefully they don't).

By the way, there's some good stuff on chooksta's thread(noisia, ladymusgrave). Most, and I have bothered to listen to all the stuff linked to it, are a bit boring for my tastes and aren't what I would play while gaming. But that's just me.

If I listen to some other music than map music, I usually put on some really cool smooth jazz or piano improvisation, like Keith Jarrett (live on the blue note recordings <3 ) or Dave Brubeck, or even something like Jan Gabarek (very meditative). I love the contrast of that really fast game and that endlessly smooth and balanced ambiente the music creates. I have the feeling it usually makes me play more concentrated and accurate.

If I'm not listening to the tracks included with the game, I usually listen to music from other games. In particular I like to have the CTF Electric Fields (DM Insidious in UC1) from UT2k4 playing when I'm experimenting around with the most manic/chaotic tweaks I can think of.

You probably know this with your like of game music but Frontline Assembly is good. They did some of Quake III Arena's soundtrack.

I'd just like to pop in and say the OP's choice of Meshuggah and Tesseract is truly impeccable.

Hell yeah, fun fact: Quake III: Arena for the Dreamcast initially had exclusive maps that the PC version didn't get until the Dreamcast was discontinued AND had an entirely different soundtrack (done by Sonic Mayhem) all together. Here's some of my favorites from that version.

This one plays on Arena Gate and just like most of the DC soundtrack, it fits the game much better than the one made for the PC version:

and another from Blue Monday (one of the exclusive maps, my favorite in the whole game):

And one more from the tutorial level:

The only thing I really dislike about it is that there still were some tracks from the PC version that I thought should have stayed in the game, in particular the one for Campgrounds got swapped out and replaced with the one they used for Arena Gate in this version.

Depends on my mood. Often I just leave the Xonotic sounds on (only game with a soundtrack I actually like) but if I don't I listen to pretty much everything that falls under "Metal", "Post-Hardcore" or "Electronic".

I listen to epic music, like from Two Steps from Hell, Immediate Music, E.S. Posthumus, West One Music, XRay Dog, Veigar, etcetera.

oh yes, Dougan is cool, really cool.
But I'm rather not listening to any music while playing (i have problems in paying attention to more than one thing at the moment, so i usually don't even notice there's some music playing in the background, so even if there's some music turned on, it would be a lie to say that i'm listening to it while playing Wink )

If I listen to anything at all, usually all I've got is the soundFX and I'm yelling back and forth with team-mates on my LAN.

You can talk to team mates? Have I had my head in the sand or what!

LAN=Local Area Network, we're all playing in the same room.

To talk with team-mates over the internet you'd need mumble or something. Xonotic doesn't have a built in one, if that's what you're wondering.
