This is actually something found in Unreal Engine 3 powered games such as Blacklight and Tribes Ascend. Basically the weapon model and vehicle cockpits wouldn't be influenced in any way by your FOV settings and look exactly the same no matter what it's set to. This seems like it would be useful in Xonotic due to how annoying it can be to pilot a vehicle with an FOV higher than 90.
