[SOLVED] Xonotic won't open

I tried running Xonotic, and nothing happens. I did install Compiz effects and stuff, is that it?

Which file did you try to execute? It should be xonotic-linux64-glx Also make sure the Allow this file to run as a program flag is set >> Right click, properties, permissions and check the box at the bottom.

You can also start it through the terminal. Open terminal, go to the xonotic folder and run ./xonotic-linux64-glx Remember the execute as program flag still has to be set.

Go ahead and tell me! Try to disable compiz temporarily and see what happens.


EDIT: I'll anticipate. When you see that Xonotic won't launch, try starting it from a terminal. If you start Xonotic by double-clicking "xonotic-linux-sdl.sh" in directory "/home/Deltacon/bla/xonotic/" for example, then simply open a terminal and type this:

./xonotic-linux-sdl.sh

Now tell us what errors show up.

Fixed it, I usually fix these things right after posting me needing help.. I should stop doing that.

Can you please briefly tell us what was wrong and how you fixed it? Just in case someone passes by later with the same issue and wonders how you fixed it.

Even if you have the issue solved, Compiz may hit performance a little but you can work around it by making some modifications to the Xonotic start up script to disable Compiz when the game starts. See my thread here:

Thanks, but the issue was restarting, compiz doesn't me much.
