High Res Skyboxes

As my first contribution to Xonotic I will be reproducing many of the Nexuiz skyboxs into very high resolution versions using Terragen 2 http://www.planetside.co.uk/content/view/15/27/.

They will be released in the format of 2048x2048 pixels and in .tga form. I will leave it to the head developers what format and level of compression they would like to use.

Any particular requests are quite welcome.

For now will start with:

-darkblue
-stralenex5
-and a new realistic space themed skybox

Awesomeness Cuinnton. The skybox you made for Space Elevator is one of the better skyboxes I've seen, and really helps in creating a good looking map! Now if all skyboxes are going to be of this quality... excellent!

Remember, you can't use free edition of Terragen 2 if you want Xonotic to include your skyboxes.

I have a full version of it now, so im able to render high res images above 800x600. So all is well.

Anyone ever heard of a "skydome" - those who use Compiz might have, if you used Beryl the term was quite popular. It's very similar to a skybox, as in it wraps all the way around a desktop GL cube. There is a whole site dedicated to Compiz themes, with a sub-section on skydomes. Since Compiz is an open-source project and most of these skydomes are shared free I would be willing to guess most designers would share these skydomes under GPL. Check this out:

The site has ways to contact the author, so check there. My fav so far is a 4096 x 2048 tiling panoramic of the Milky Way :o

Huh? you mean skyboxes ingame? Thats just 12 textured triangles.. i bet even on a c64 that would display smoothly Really its hard to imagine thats too much extra strain on even a 8 year old PC.

Damn, that's good looking. Would make it really good for an ocean platform map.

I'm on an old crappy IBM laptop. I cut out everything that I possibly can for more FPS. You'd be surprised how much of a difference it makes. =P

It looks like the bottom of polluted earth does not quite align with the sides.

It looks seemless to me Roanoke? Have any screenshots?
