My binds:
Code:
1 - crylink, shotgun
2 - rocketlauncher, electro, grenadelauncher
3 - minstanex, nex, rifle
4 - hagar, uzi, hlac
5 - fireball, seeker, minelayer, porto
Q - toggle laser
E - previous weapon (excluding laser)
ENTER - chat
\ - team chat
Z - zoom
C - toggle third person
MOUSE1 - attack
MOUSE2 - alternative attack
MOUSE3 - toggle zoom
MWHEELUP - gradually zoom in
MWHEELDOWN - gradually zoom out
Are you wondering why there are many weapons per key? Well, I'm quite a bindmaster () so I made switch keys: if I have both shotgun and crylink, I can press 1 repeatedly to switch between them. This is all described here.

Actually that line I really said when discovering that the layout Mirio posted is his real layout he uses for playing.

Control Layouts for tactical shooters a kind of meh...its not as twitchy so rarely anyone messes with the default. But interestingly a lot more players messes with the default controls for a twitchy based game like Quake Live, Unreal Tournament, and Xonotic.
So what is your control layout when it comes to Xonotic? It is interesting to see what bizzare control layouts players comes up with and why, because those games are extremely fast, and it is important to make quick judgements and movements.
Here is my changes I made.
Q and E are my previous and next keys - I chose that because it is a lot easier to scroll through weapons precisely instead of using the mousewheel.
Shift is my hook key - No sprint in Xonotic? Then what am I going to use the shift key for? Well, apparently since you go faster using the hook anyway, that is kind of sprinting in Xonotic. So I used Shift.
Alt key is my "Alternate Fire" key - I'm so used to aiming down sights or zooming in with my Right-Mouse button. So I simply chose my left Alt key for Alternative Fire with my weapons. Plus it kind of does make sense to use it since, well, the key says "Alt" on it. :/
Other than that, that is my simple control scheme. In the past, I grew up with tactical/realistic slow FPSs like Ghost Recon, Thief, Mechwarrior, Swat 3, etc. - So that is why my controls are kind of aimed towards a tactical FPS like style.
What is yours? Is it something bizzare or crazier than mine?

Quite a few people don't use previous/next binds, because weapon switching is very important in Xonotic, and having individual binds is the only practical way to do good combos.

wasd = move
space = jump
c = crouch
mouse1 = fire
mouse2 = alt fire
shift = zoom
1-4 = laser, shotgun, machinegun, mortar
q = nex
ctrl = rocket launcher
g = hagar
v = crylink/hlac
mouse4 = electro
t = chat (should change; it's liable to be hit mid-combat)
ummmm... i invert my y axis, that's kinda weird :F
I use the following (on German qwertz keyboard layout):
esdf for movement (leaves more space for weapon binds around them)
2: Laser (since I got so used to Laser being on "1" when still playing wasd)
1: Shotgun
a: Mortar
q: Crylink
w: Electro
r: Rocket Launcher
g: Nex
v: MG
x: Hagar
t: Hook
z: Chat
u: Team Chat
b: Drop Weapon
n: Drop Flag
Space: Jump
Left Ctrl: Crouch
Shift: Zoom
Mouse thumb button 1: Team say enemy seen + sprite
Mouse thumb button 2: Team say flag seen + sprite
Mouse wheel tilt right: Team say attacking
Mouse wheel tilt left: Team say defending
I find this layout rather comfortable, only flaw is for me that I cannot crouch and zoom well at the same time, but who needs to do that anyway in this game :o)
Having the weapon binds around the movement keys has proven very effective for weapon comboing to me, I started with just a few and now since almost all weapons have their deadlyness in certain situations, I got binds all around. Some times I still get mixed up between Crylink and Electro, maybe I need to think about that placement but otherwise I can pick any weapon reliably nowadays.

Yeah me too, I never had the motivation to adapt to binds like "qertfyxc" for weaponry and such. In all shooters I play I'm just using wasd for navigation, numbers for weapons, q/e for quick switches and the keys to the right (r/t/f..) for use,drop,reload and other game-dependent binds.
(08-07-2012, 02:36 AM)BlaXpirit Wrote: Also... Why don't I often see chat bound to ENTER? It makes sense, you have to press it anyway.
+1000 - this makes so much sense to me, and I used it since .. ever! Also, teamchat bound to backspace because it's close by. Additionally both buttons are quite large, so I never hit another key by accident.

Lawl! That layout is indeed one of the strangest I ever saw
(Also: let's get the quoteception started!)
WASD - Movement
1 - Laser
2 - Shotgun
3 - Hagar
E - Nex
F - Mortar
C - RL
Q - MG
R - Crylink
X - Electro
T/Y - Chat/Teamchat
Mouse 1/2 - Primary/secondary fire
Mouse 3 - Reload
Devoted my numpad for preset chat messages, like default.
I just use T for chat because I'm doing that for so long already in all my games, sometimes I even keep typing the 't' in skype or anything because I'm so used to it
interesting binds. how do you guys manage to switch weapons that are near the movement keys while moving? feels really awkward for me — especially q and e.
