Cool indie games thread

#1
While most indie games are weird 2D platformers or crappy unity-engine minecraft clones, there is also some cool stuff out there. Post yours.

I like some of those weird 2D platformers, especially the shooter ones

Knytt Stories is probably the most simple, yet the very best, platformer I've ever played. It features an absurdly beautiful atmosphere through ambient music and with tons of community "stories" the gameplay is endless.

It's free and runs well with wine: http://nifflas.ni2.se/?page=Knytt+Stories

When I said weird platformer I was rather thinking of something like this:

Agreed, the Knytt is one of my favourite indie game series. I remember playing some incredibly fun/atmospheric maps created by the community, along with some which were just there for the challenge.
Knytt Underground, despite not being free, is an awesome game in its own right. A very nice combination of platforming elements in a surreal world. (Starts off slow, but it pays off)

Enviro-Bear 2000

You're a bear. You're hungry. Winter is approaching. Run into trees and lakes with your car to catch fishes and berries to prepare for hibernation.

The controls make this super fun and challenging. You can find some videos on youtube to get the idea.

Valdis Story: Abyssal City. Single best game I played in 2013 (independent or AAA), nothing really came close. Trailer doesn't really do it justice, as it fails to show off the puzzle, exploration, diverse gameplay styles, and not to mention epic boss fights and one hell of a soundtrack.

Freedom Planet. Another awesome one, also a 2D game. These out Sonic'd Sonic with this one, as it really could serve as a proper successor to Sonic 3 & Knuckles, which was the series' highpoint immediately after Sonic CD. It's very much what you would expect if Sega Technical Institute and Treasure got together in the early 90s to develop something for what would be the next generation's (back then) Sega Saturn. Varied and creative levels, excellent gameplay, awesome bossfights, very pretty sprite work, and once again an amazing soundtrack.

Bastion. Almost an indie game, Warner Bros. did get to slap their logo on it (they didn't get to do that with Transistor though) though, they had no creative freedom with it. My pick for game of the year in 2011, to me it was better than The Witcher 2, Deus Ex 3, and EYE Divine Cybermancy.

EYE: Divine Cybermancy. This made Deus Ex 3 look bad in my opinion and that is saying a lot. In spite translation problems (lol they google-translated it from French, a fan patch exists to properly translate it to English), it was the single best first person game in my opinion to come out of 2011 and by far one of the deepest games I have EVER played.

Pier Solar. This one was actually a kickstarter project originally for the SEGA GENESIS AND SEGA CD, though it recently got ported to Dreamcast, Windows, Linux, and I believe Mac OS X. I actually have the Genesis version along with the Sega CD-compatible soundtrack (you can use the CD music if you have a Sega CD). Pretty good Japanese-style RPG.

Video
Is essentially a great continuation to the first game in the JRPG series, with a satisfying ending to the story that started in the first game. It offers players a polished gameplay mechanic, a well-developed world, and a plot that captivates them from beginning to end. Highly recommendable for fans of JRPGs.

As far as I'm aware, the only indie games I had played were Game Dev Tycoon and PC Building Simulator (before the Mediatonic buyout).

Well color me yellow, I found another game (and I just posted a video set to release tomorrow on YouTube on it) called Disfigure, which is a top-down shooter.
