Help with map layout

I'm not experienced player and I come from different type of gameplay so I'm having problems with maps layouts.
I built somehing which has 2 big areas connected with hallways.
I want to know if it could be become something playable or I should start with another thing (and play more the gameTongue).

Yeah, this could be a DM map. Tips for Xonotic mapping: Make it futuristic (ie. think a factory as opposed to a castle). A tip: Place Xonrifle or Strength on the upper catwalk in the slime pit, and the Xonrifle in the middle of the room from second screen shot.

Yeah a DM map is not bad .... btw you can double the layout for a simmetric CTF map ... you can put the flags in the round area.

I think most players (me included) are not a fan of vast amounts of slime or lava in a map.
Try to think of the map in terms of pathways where how movement within the map would transition between areas.
Make sure there are some obvious areas where battles will take place.

Then you can figure out where to place your items based on those battle areas + the paths between them.

I agree, slime and/or lava can get very annoying when it's not used sparingly.

The map layout itself looks nice, I like curved walls in maps because you can laser jump along them with little or no effort Big Grin

Xonotic maps should all have similar themes and structure, so, take a look at the available Xonotic maps for reference, post the map(s) on the forum for discussion and make changes according to what testers tell you.

On the other hand, don't expect your first map to perfectly fit, even with applied suggested changes. Here's an idea: go wild. Make it the most-awesome map _to few people_. Make up a story, a whole universe just for this map (or even a small series of maps). Don't try to conform too much - that will come naturally by playing or making more maps.

The few people will be VERY happy.

i'm not most people, so i wouldn't mind vast amounts of anything. But it could be made interesting, of course, with some random stuff floating around in it. i think Doc Pyton had a nice map with lots of lava that i found interesting. (The music reminded me of a Resident Evil movie soundtrack mix.)

Be careful with the size! It seems like some of the hallways are kinda low and head-bumpy. Try to go larger everywhere. You can still detail the interior later to make the areas where the players can move smaller. The other way round is always more complicated.

Mr. M4 the map you think of in the end is docs_hell_incarnate, whith a wonderful look ans some cool music Wink

I liked that map to, but its gameplay is maybe not the best and there are hardly any servers who have that map :|
