A Moddb page like this would be good.
http://www.youtube.com/user/WolfireGames
A youtube channel with wip videos, gameplay features, tutorials and demos would attract many people

here are some genereal pr tips, which can be useful
EDIT:
Maybe also a PR package, which can be send to gamer magazins.

Good ideas there. That should be considered!

Cortez, I'm working on the PR package as we speak.
I created a lot of accounts for "Xonotic" on various sites, but I missed moddb.com
Good suggestion.
We'll add a game entry on there after we start organizing more details about the game.
We do have a youtube account for Xonotic and plan to use that just like you described.

old forums had "Videos of what you're doing" and its better than youtube channel where only few selected ppl can post videos

contiuning such a thread is usefull but for PR effects a general youtube channel would be more usefull.
Maybe a thread where stuff can be gathered for uploading on youtube.

i think more people would use a youtube channel, especially since many players don't even use the forums. It could feature tutorial videos, tourney matches (these would be better as downloadable demos actually), and personal frag videos like octobre by pavlvs (except obviously xonotic vids rather than nexuiz).
speaking of demos, would it be possible to use a demo system which allowed you to switch between which player you are speccing or switch to free spectate? Counter strike demos are like this, and it would mean that any given tournament match would require only 1 demo file to download to see everything which would be nice.

trev, you might want to post that demo idea on a new thread.

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/ maybe we can get one here as well
I have no signature . That is all .

The project is just a couple of days old. The developers are busy with actually developing the game. Give them time.
|
|
display a bit of patience
MY NOOB STATS:
|
|
i also would like to see some news post on the main page, to show this game is still in development
|
|
Before we have a PR package, we need to decide on a logo...

i meant a post with some development updates.
a pr package is usually published short before the release

+1 What Cortez is saying.

+1 from me too some updates on the main page would be great, really.

This is likely coming soon, as the news page is being fixed at the moment (there was no way to post news articles on it due to bugs afaik)

I agree there should be a youtube channel and not just the "videos of what u r doing" thread.
youtube is for all people including people who never played Xonotic/Nexiuz while the forum is for people who r actually not just interested in playing Xonotic but also in its development too (considering it's still not released and many people from Nexuiz are still waiting for that, don't want to try git version)

great idea. I agree with Dokujisan, it should have a separate thread.

Demos from all perspectives (each player plus free view) would be nice, but I have no idea how doable that is.

I was about to make a new topic, but I remembered/realized that this one exists... But, including those suggestions above, I'll like to point a few things more...
1. Use social medias (Facebook, Twitter etc.) more effectively. I know that Xonotic has a Facebook profile (I've "Liked" it), but besides just automatically posting Xonotic news from main page Facebook profile should also have it's own "social" aspect posting things from community and behind the scenes, tournament stuff etc. I also pondered some kind of alternatives for "get effort being a fan", like fans getting free products etc. via lottery, but because Xonotic is FOSS and community-driven we cannot do anything like this. That's why some kind of alternative option for this.
As you propably know, game called "Heroes of Newerth" simply used Facebook as it's main advertising method while it was in closed beta - and it really worked. And giving an example from my own life, my "friend" (okay, he's a real selfish dumbass) used, or uses, just Facebook to advertise his party which he organized, which lead to thousands of partiers and loads of money for him. Due to these 2 examples I want especially more social media activity.
2. Xfire support and community page. Xfire will propably support Xonotic when it's released (it supports Nexuiz), but our job is to make this support more active making Xonotic popular. We could promote Xonotic community members to use Xfire (even Linux and Mac OSX users with third-party programs), when more players gives us more media coverage.
Here's one Xfire community example: http://www.xfire.com/communities/heroesofficial/
Here is Nexuiz's Xfire page (as you can see, it's not very popular... Xonotic should fix this problem ): http://www.xfire.com/games/nexuiz/Nexuiz/

Counter strike demos are like this, and it would mean that any given tournament match would require only 1 demo file to download to see everything which would be nice. Problem is, the server only sends info to you about what you see in the game to prevent wallhacks and to save bandwidth etc. So there's no way for the client to know what the other players are doing/where weapons are dropped (and thus even items spawned, as they work with the same system without any "prediction" clientside). Try flying around with the demo camera (camera_enable 1 iirc) and let the player you were following move to another room: watch all entities magically disappear!
There could possibly be ways around this, like sending the full demo to clients at the end of the match, but either way the current demo system is rotten and hopefully gets implemented in another way (input based rather than a dump of network packets). Then we might also be able to consider things like this. (and other awesomeness like auto-cutting race-demos?)
