A very old game but a goodie. It's a shame Sunspire Studios stopped production Sad

What I found fun some years ago was hacking the maps to make them ridiculously steep and then try and break the sound barrier!

Heh-heh... The penguin will burn if he moved at such speeds in real life.... or at least have all his feathers off....

So, sounds like animal abuse to me...

Only if supersonic. At subsonic speeds the penguin will actually suffer from windchill but penguins are very hardy when it comes to the cold. Once Tux goes supersonic then he will indeed start heating up but it takes a lot higher speeds to get that hot. Concorde for example would only expand by 0.6m despite going twice the speed of sound.

If you're worried about feathers coming off due to the aerodynamic drag, I wouldn't be. They're made to swim as well and the forces when swimming even at low speed are greater as the density of air is only 1.225kg/m3. My quick calculations via the Navier-Stokes equation show that a penguin swimming at 12m/s will be subjected to the same drag forces as a penguin going at the speed of sound.

It's many years ago. All I remember is that there are some plain text files which list certain factors for the maps and by changing one of them you change the steepness of the hill that the map is based on. This is literally a 5 second mod.

Not sure about supersonic but I certainly remember doing way more than the 200-300km/h that you could manage in one of the maps (Who said penguins can't fly?) normally. Only played with it for a little while so didn't do proper Vmax testing.

Played TuxRacer, PlanetPenguinRacer, Extreme Tux Racer, I got frustrated with all the forks (cause none was good) and just dropped the game.
