[WIP MAP] Sunset

Ow. I read way too many of these stories. If you produce content, make two copies at the very least, and keep them up to date every day! If you want to use a USB device, get one for backups ONLY, and mark it as such!

Don't drop this project, Maddin! I am sure you had a backup somewhere on your computer or on dropbox or on the server in game. I am still looking forward to see how this map will look in the final version.

Sadly not Justin, it´s gone. But I for sure remember the design thus I am able to recreate it.

I wrote some shiny shell script to create a backup of my mapping stuff and save it to my dropbox. This fault shall not happen anymore!

better idea: create a bzr/hg/git repository (whichever you like the best, if you don't know any of them then bzr is the easiest to use) on dropbox (or any other synced cloud service) and then keep your maps there, just remember to commit ever significant change

But learning git will be more useful if you ever plan to contribute to Xonotic or play around with the source files.

I use git but not as a backup service (which you shouldn´t do either). Dropbox is fine for such purposes and a shell script is doing all the copy/paste job.

I started creating the visuals of the map now by the way.

Youre not supposed to use GITHUB as a backup service, you can still use git for your maps!

EDIT: Assumed what tye link said before checking it, they indeed discourage git for backups, still, using git for map dev should be quite good(or hg, bzr etc. for that matter).

Git is not github :-).

You can create your own git repo in any directory on any storage device and have that repo uploaded to any cloud storage. This way is good for any nonpublic development etc.

Only wimps use tape backup: real men just upload their important stuff on ftp, and let the rest of the world mirror it
